FUMI — Restaurant in Hong Kong Island

The Japanese welcome is always uplifting, which is what I got here at Fumi. I'd booked it via Eatigo.

The table setting was clean and simple yet elegant, like their overall setup. Very Japanese.

I ordered the pickled vegetables and assorted vegetable tempura.

Pickled Vegetables

They picked vegetables were great, a good variety.

Those have to be the best pickled onions I've eaten. I even doubted for a moment if they were onions or something else. Garlic was good, but raw to bite. Didn't taste raw or sharp, though. Maybe that's how it's meant to be. The pickled radish - there's nothing not to like there. The cucumbers were fresh and crisp, topped with some pickled grains and sesame in miso like paste? I couldn't tell what it was. And then you had pickled asparagus, I think?

Tempura

The tempura arrived perfect, your usual thin coating, crisp exterior. Fresh vegetables + mushrooms. Not sure if they serve it with any specific salts or sauce or if I intercepted them too soon for the soy sauce.

If you're coming with a super big appetite, you may want to order something else. I was feeling greedy and was tempted to order more, but knew I'd be full the moment the next thing arrived, and chose not to.

For this time, I'll left feeling satiated with a very nice meal. Yay for Japanese food again.

We tried FUMI as it is ranked one of the best sushi in Hong Kong. They are, of course, a very popular spot being almost full house when we had dinner there. Understandably, we were seated with other diners on the same table to accommodate the restaurant having more people. I would recommend this place if you are looking for a lively sushi house full of chatter and people. However, if you wanted it to be a quiet, romantic date night, you are probably in the wrong place...

We ordered the FUMI tasting menu and two other rolls: FUMI signature roll and a soft-shell crab roll. They taste pretty good with some flares of innovation, combining different palates together to spur new tastes in Japanese cuisine. Had an awesome experience having lunch with a close friend during this lunchtime rush hour. However busy the kitchen and the floor had been, people served with nice manners, kind hearts, with decent food! :D Sashimi carried rich taste and texture. Could see how fresh and nicely treated the fish were. ;) Sushi was well made too! And here comes the mains! Mine was a wagyu sukiyaki hotpot. The soup was just right taste! Not too sweet or what but just right! The wagyu beef was so tender and wait until it melts in your mouth... Omg just amazing w
