I had dinner at Osteria Marzia on 10Jan. As I step into the enchanting world of Osteria Marzia, I am immediately captivated by its warm ambiance. The soothing music and elegant décor create an inviting atmosphere that promises an unforgettable dining experience. Little did I know that what awaited me was a gastronomic adventure that would delight each of my senses.
To kick off this culinary journey, I started with the Hamachi. The presentation was a feast for the eyes, with vibrant colors and meticulous attention to detail. As my fork glided through this masterpiece, layers of flavor danced on my palate. The combination of fresh ingredients and the chef's creativity resulted in a harmonious blend that left me yearning for more.
For the main course, I opted for the Bronte and the Sea bass with the Aqua pazza . The aroma alone was enough to make my mouth water, and the first bite confirmed my high expectations. The fish perfectly cook right to point, releasing its savory juices with each bite. The Bronte is their signature, must try it. The accompaniments perfectly complemented the star of the dish, taking it to another level of indulgence. It was truly a symphony of flavors that left me feeling fulfilled and yet wanting to savor it all over again.
No meal is complete without a sweet ending, so I allowed myself to succumb to temptation and ordered the house made pistachio gelato . From the first spoonful, my taste buds were transported to dessert heaven. The decadent texture, the balance of sweetness, and the exquisite presentation were all evidence of the chef's expertise. It was a blissful finale to a culinary adventure I will cherish for a long time.
In addition to the extraordinary food, the service at Osteria Marzia was impeccable. The waitstaff were attentive, knowledgeable, and passionate about creating a memorable dining experience. The sommelier guided me seamlessly through the extensive wine list, enhancing the flavors of each dish with the perfect pairing.
Osteria Marzia truly exemplifies the artistry of fine dining. The combination of remarkable culinary creations, welcoming ambiance, and exceptional service makes it a haven for food lovers. Whether you're celebrating a special occasion or looking to indulge in the pleasures of exquisite cuisine, this enchanting establishment will undoubtedly leave a...
Read moreWent here with a party of 5 people, booked 2 weeks ahead as we had visitors in town. Got put in a table for 4. 2 on chairs facing the window, the other 3 with their backs to the window on a couch, the seating was not a problem, just that the middle person of the three sat exactly where the 2 tables joined and it was uneven. Not great start...
The staff was ok, but the menu was so difficult, The waitress tried to explain that some plates listed under the raw fish section was indeed cooked, also some dishes were now a different price to what was on the menu and also that some dishes the ingredients had changed. This went on for what seemed like a long time and as a group we didnt feel very relaxed infact more having to figure out the complicated menu and trying to recall all the waitresses information!
two of us wanted one of the pasta dishes (cavatelli), but then were told that there was only one portion left and one of us had to chose something else... when the cavatelli came, it was over seasoned and very salty. We could not eat it, told the manager and he agreed and asked if we wanted another. He checked, confirmed that was the last portion and we had to chose another dish. All the other mains had arrived and one of us just waited for this last dish... it arrived just about as when other people had finished. Not great. We just got an apology, no offer to take the dish off the bill or any other gesture.
The policy is that if you had mineral water - it was charged at 58 dollars per person, free flow... why??
Overall, they were trying too hard on things that didnt much matter. Food was OK - but the service and way they handled the meal was not great and we will unlikley to return. The meal was close to 1000 HKD per head for not a lot. For that we can get much better elsewhere
The only positive part was that the decor was nice, music was good and the toilets were upstairs which meant you saw some...
Read moreCool Place, so cool you need to bring a sweater or a Jacket! Oh the AC.... Our French waiter was knowledgable regarding the menu, the food (except one course) was delivered timely, and presented well, as one would expect. Did I mentione the cold air coming down from the AC?
The portions were meagre for sharing, given the fact they charge like a wounded rhinocerous! More design over function than any concept of added value me thinks. No I didn't want a huge bowl of pasta but more than two fork fulls each for $320 HKD would have been nice? Speaking of the pasta, there's Al dente and there's a trip to the dentist! Seriously, a touch undercooked, to the tooth not dry and uncooked centres please!
Did I mention the cold AC? Yes, I mentioned it twice since arriving, 30 minutes later I am now wearing a large white cloth Napkin across my shoulders to minimise the artic blast from the ceiling, really!
Pesce Spada was ok, nothing to write home about, I've had plenty Menu del Dia on the Spanish Costa's that would equal the taste and possibly the (near raw) texture as served which didn't literally melt in the mouth as promised!
The Raved about extra side dish of Panele / Thrice Cooked Sicilian chick pea slices, were soggy, laden with grease and quite frankly dire. Removed from the bill, but nontheless, classic streetfood done this badly, at this level?
My star rating is probably generous given the cost versus quality of experience, saved from a lesser one only by the enigmatic waiter whom eventually managed to find that AC button, too little too late.
Total cost for two persons sharing 4 courses having removed the dreaded Panelle with only sparkling San Peligrino Water, no wine or alcohol, was $1,178 HKD / £118 GBP / $140
It's all subjective, I appreiate that, however as a seasoned traveller, reasonable cook and experienced in many cuisines, this one definitely fell way short...
