Wingman HK — Restaurant in Hong Kong Island

Wingman specializes in chicken wings!!Wingman also has two meanings in English which I had difficulty explaining it Chinese, but anyway here is the English is definition.

In flying terms Wingman is the plane flying beside and slightly behind the lead plane in an aircraft formation.

In social terms, a Wingman is a person who supports a friend in need of support when approaching a potential date.Birdman is a festival where people dress up as birds and jump off the pier to win by the longest distance flown.

Anyway, Wingman is founded by two guys represented by the art on the wall. As I was there for the wings, I decided to try 3 different flavours as it was really difficult to choose.

There were some interesting flavours like coffee which I imagine would taste sweet and bitter.

The three flavours that I ordered were Honey Hoisin, Cajun and Buffalo.

As they were all strong flavours, it was hard to choose the lightest flavour to start with so tried the hoisin first.

With the spring onions and sweet hoisin sauce it just tasted like Peking duck which was really delicious.

Next was the Cajun which were quite spicy.

The Buffalo sauce wings were my favourite because they were really tangy and I love that tangy taste.

Traditionally Buffalo wings are served with blue cheese sauce/ranch sauce with veggie sticks so it would be great if they topped it with some diced celery and bit of the blue cheese sauce drizzled on.

Although the chives on top do make you think of sour cream.

The drinks and the food were great! We got the free flow drinks and free flow wings (3 flavours) this is such a deal.

We ate less than 80 wings, but this wasnt by choice, this was because the service simply ✨ didnt ✨ serve us our full order. 80 wings within 90 minutes limit, which is less than one wing a minute?!! And the first order took half an hour for drinks and food. We ordered like 2 more drinks which didnt arrive after one hour. The wings took one hour and at the end our order was not fulfilled.

At the end of the day, we feel a bit scammed because we never had our entire order made. They kept saying it was our fault for ordering so much, but since when did a gin and tonic take half an hour to make?!!!! I cant help but feel like they were lying to us 🥲 and lowkey gaslighting us?!!

They told us our 100 wings were on the way but kept telling us they were on the way and had the audacity to ask us if we needed anything else in the last two minutes with no intention of fulfilling our order!!

Keep in mind they kept reminding us about our order of wings and we agreed because we were hungry!!

Please think twice about coming here because the wait time is not worth it and you dont even get what you order.

Wingman gives you wings

Let’s start with passion fruit jasmine tea (staff told there’s a typo in menu). Light and subtly sweet blend with passion fruit. I guess it will be great in soda base as well.

Then the tomato with homemade ricotta cheese salad comes to table. Totally out of expectation! The salad is made of 3-4 types of tomatoes: red cherry, green, purple, yellow and red. Very fresh ingredients with all skin removed. The basic olive oil and vinegar dressing is delicious on every salad. What I like the most is the chopped dried black olives on top for a distinctive flavor. I hope the salad would come in a larger portion and I can have it for lunch.

Chicken wing is the star of the night. Wingman offered more than 10 flavours of wing, with or without dipping sauce. Fantastic dry rubbed buffalo chicken wings which are well seasoned. It is a bit spicy but not too hot. The wings are just perfectly cooked that have the perfect crunchiness.

Look out for the “Wing” day every Wednesday. A perfect place for happy hour. Very friendly and energetic staff.
