Let's start with the positives, because there is one: the view of Hong Kong's harbor is, without a doubt, breathtaking. It's the primary reason we chose Avoca for our evening. The initial ambiance was perfect for our group—elegant, relaxed, and conducive to conversation as we enjoyed well-made cocktails and a bottle of wine.

However, the entire evening was sabotaged around 7 PM when a staff member decided to crank the music volume to an intolerable level. We are not talking about a gentle background increase; this was a sudden, aggressive shift that made it completely impossible to hold a conversation without shouting across the table.

Our group politely asked a staff member if the volume could be lowered to its previous level. The response we received was not just unhelpful; it was frankly insulting. We were told that the volume had "only been raised from 60% to 65%." This is a meaningless and silly metric—the objective fact was that the decibel level had shifted from pleasant to painful.

We then asked a simple, reasonable question: given that the bar was only about 30% full, could we be moved to a table that wasn't directly under a speaker? This request was completely ignored. No attempt was made to find a solution. The apathy was palpable.

Faced with a choice between shouting at each other or leaving, we chose the latter. We settled our exorbitant bill (because let's be clear, their prices are firmly in the 5-star category) and walked out to continue our evening at the Regent Hotel

Similar world-class views, similarly priced drinks, but here they understand that luxury service means accommodating guests and maintaining a comfortable atmosphere.
