The texture of the meats were so realistic, even my friend who is a huge meat lover thought they were real. Naturally, it made me really panicky and wondered whether I was actually eating real meat or not. We had to check whether we were really eating at a vegetarian restaurant. (And it is)
If you're looking for good fake meat, then you've found a great place. This restaurant will serve high quality fake meat. But what makes them unique is that they go above and beyond this. While most veggie restaurants focus on creating realistic fake meat, Leisurely Veggie has the right idea on good food as a whole. The food is served in an aesthetically pleasing way, with a wide variety of ingredients and spices to stimulate the senses.
We ordered the set lunches, with 2 western and 1 chinese style appetizers. Both were fine.
As for the main course, we ordered "Japanese-style Cold Soba, served with Fried Mushroom with Lemon Sauce", [H] "Fried Rice with Pineapple in Thai Style, served with Satay Skewers", and [A] "Baked veggie rice" (baked cheese, tomato, spinach, pumpkin, omnipork luncheon rice)
The soba noodles and the soy sauce may look plain, but are very flavourful. They were a cool contrast to our other dish choices. The mushroom meat was what really got us though. The lemon sauce complemented the crispy fried coating on the mushrooms, creating a wonderful sauce that mimicked the real thing perfectly.
The fried rice was gorgeous looking, very beautiful plating. The pineapples were warm and juicy and the satay skewers had a similar texture to the fried mushrooms.
Lastly, the baked veggie rice had peppers, onions, "spam", tomatoes. Again, very realistic meats and great flavours. If you've had Fairwood's omnipork lunch, think of this as an upgraded better version. Slightly smaller though of course.
For drinks, we ordered [E] korean honey aloe citron tea, [F] lemon and ginger tea with honey, and a special drink that required an upgrade of $10.
This drink is called the iced butterfly pea and pear juice. It was sickly sweet, like grape juice / ribenna but on steroids. It was like the tooth fairy gargled and spat it out along with 15 cavities. Definitely would not recommend. This is my only critique of the restaurant for now.
The hot drinks tasted normal and as they should.
The service was excellent and staff were polite and attentive. Restaurant was clean and well-maintained. Wait time was 0 as we went on Thursday around 1300.
While the food may be slightly on the higher end side, approx $70 on average for one dish, I would say it was definitely worth it.
Leisurely Veggie, we left a metal reuseable boba straw at your restaurant. While purely unintentional, it definitely gives us incentive to come back and reclaim...
Read moreThis restaurant has given me very good impression when I came last time. I decided to give it a go again after a few years of not having it, luckily it wasn’t too full on a weekday. We order two sets dinner to share between the two of us. Picked a tomato vegan risotto and also a lasagna pasta made with veggie instead of meat! Both sets came with an option of soup (Chinese /western) and two plates of starters. we picked the former one which included a lot of Chinese ingredients. the small appetizer was fresh and flavorful- two options one on the Chinese side and the other one is on the western side. our seaweed rolls then arrived, it was flavorful tasty and crunchy! A lot better than how I assumed to be, the seaweed was not soggy at all and the veggie, avocado 🥑 asparagus was so refreshing! first main arrived, portion was huge and mushroom cooked very nicely. Presented well and also very delicious! My friend loved it!! the highlight of the night for myself was definitely this pasta with cheese and lots of veggies! - eggplant, taro, sweet potatoes, potatoes! Superb food and not feeling too guilty afterwards too. the sets also came with a pick of two desserts, we opted for the cheesecake and matcha pudding. They also provided a free dessert for us! Overall, this is my top choice for vegan Chinese food 🥘 & restaurant in Hong Kong. Lasagna is always the best with perfect amount of veggies and cheese 🧀! Mushroom tomato 🍅 risotto was also awesome 👏 ended up with a delicious lemon 🍋 cheesecake which will satisfy your tastebud !...
Read moreQuite good as far as taste goes.
The 土匪腐皮卷 (cumin tofu skin wrap) is super crispy; a lovely texture. Since I am a such for contrasting textures in food, I obvs enjoyed the mango avocado seaweed wrap which had little sprouts inside instead of rice (and mayo). The salads are done nicely as well, I liked that they have a variety of colors in the dish. Some of the veggie meat like satay are disguised quite well that we spent time disecting what is what (probably a gluten product). We also ordered the limited edition dessert which is basically slabs of honeyed toast layered with whipped cream and Oreos - a good reconstruction of s'mores on my tongue.
This place did not advertise itself as buddish diet focus. They indicated which dish contain dairy, although if you need a gluten free diet this place may be a miss. I think their focus is modern vegetarian food with fusion elements incorporated.
The portions are on the smaller size which contributes to more $$ spent per person to get full, unless you each order a main rice/ pizza dish. There is a minimum charge of 200$ per head, which is not unheard for me. We went during Mother's Day weekend and the bill ended up around $400 per head; but we did ordered more bite sizes than...
