I am envious to see so many 5 star reviews. Sunny is very hospitable and positive person. Unfortunately, our experience is anything but pleasant. He had told us spices are not readily available so may not taste as authentic and we were fine with that. We came as a party of 11 people and no one else was dining before or after us. He had only a couple of dishes available and took over an hour and a half for us to get our food, in fact, a couple of us actually went into the kitchen to get whatever was ready. We had arrived at 6 and did not have food until 7:30ish. He was the only one working there; he shared his personal life story so we were trying to be very understanding even though the kids were complaining after the first hour of waiting. We had ordered two different vegetables to go with the parathas. The chole was served in a small 1 person amount bowl and the aloo/gobi was larger amount but still not enough for all. When we asked for more chole, he had run out. Most of us left without fully eating as we made sure the kids got to eat with the limited amount of food he brought out. We had gone family style on the meal, not even the full 11 dishes and he still charged per head and full pricing - which was super disappointing as we like to support local restaurants but had to write a review as it was a terrible experience to leave after paying over $200, yes $200 dollars and not having enough to eat for most of the adults. We ended up picking up extra food after leaving. For comparison we ate at our hotel (Casa Luna - excellent location and will be writing a review shortly) and our bill for the entire party was less than $120 and we had more than plenty to eat and added a plate to take back for 2. Wish Sunny well; however, I would not recommend the food, the service timeline or the price.
Edit with response to owner Sunny: We are not sure why you are surprised with the review. We understand the pricing and we sat knowing the prices on the menu. We were not expecting a 1.5 hour long wait for food and had to keep coming into the kitchen to keep asking if food was ready. You knew and also mentioned in your response that we ordered the chana masala and aloo gobi family style but only brought out a small bowl of chana masala and a large bowl of aloo gobi; when we asked about more chana masala you did bring out the remaining and did not have any more. You did offer to cook more aloo gobi as you had that but after already waiting 1.5 hour for our food and you not bringing out food that was ordered, we did not want to stay longer and did not know how much longer it would take so we politely declined. The point on the pricing is that you did not bring out the amount of food we ordered for the 11 people, so naturally we did not expect to pay per person but on the food received. Also, in service industry, we would have expected at least some discount for the long wait as you were only one working, you mention "we are surprised" but no one else works there or at least worked there the day we came. Regardless, we were not going to argue with you and again politely paid the bill as you requested. You asked us to provide review on Google so I am providing an honest and candid feedback of our experience. In our experience, it was not a great experience and not worth the time or money. Thank you for the food offer; it would have meant more to not charge us for the food we did not...

This place offers a genuine taste of South India, with dishes that transport you straight to home-style comfort food.
We kicked off our meal with the Chicken Masala Curry, which was rich, flavorful, and just the right balance of spices. It came with fluffy rice, three freshly made rotis, and a cooling raita that complemented the curry perfectly. The Chilli Chicken was another highlight—crispy, spicy, and absolutely mouthwatering. But the real surprise was the Dal—it was incredibly tasty, and the depth of flavor made it a must-try. We also got the chicken fried rice.
The spice level was definitely a bit of a departure from what we’re used to, but in the best way. It was indulgent and satisfying, without being overwhelming. Despite being stuffed, we couldn’t help but keep eating—everything was so good! We over-ordered for just the two of us, but the food was so enjoyable that we didn’t mind at all.
The best part? Sunny, the owner, is a genuine and friendly guy who makes you feel like family. His hospitality is unmatched and added so much to the experience. Don’t leave without trying the Masala Chai, which was rich and aromatic, and the Satled Lassi—super refreshing and the perfect way to cool down after the heat of the spices.

Read moreWe were visiting La Fortuna, Costa Rica for the first time from Toronto Canada. We were very excited to visit an Indian restaurant but were completely disappointed with the portions of the dishes. We realize Costa Rica is not cheap and did not expect Saffron restaurant to be any different. The size of the dishes were meant for 1 person only. We ordered 3 dishes, with rice and Naan for a family of 4. The ammount of food that was served for the price it was charging was shameful and pathetic. The quality of the food was average but the portions were rediculously very small. I would highly recommend people read the reviews of this place and then visit as many people have commented the same. We did not see the value for the money spent. We got a better value for our money at the Caribbean restaurant next door Saffron restaurant is ripping people and taking advantage of people who have no other choice for an Indian restaurant in the surrounding area. Please check the photos I post that will justify my review. When I inquired about the owner and if I could talk to him, I was informed he is USA and I can contact him at the number on the restaurant banner attached to the restaurant. Obviously the owner doesn’t care about...
