Was in Croatia visiting from New York City. This was my favorite restaurant in Split, and anyone who doesn’t agree it’s at least one of the best, has no taste buds!
The food is incredible. The staff (shout out to Marco and Ivan) are so much fun and down to earth. The place is no frills atmosphere with shared tables inside. So much fun having conversations with others. I met lovely people from Poland, Spain, USA, and UK all during my 2 dinners there.
Even if their queue is long as usual, they never rush you out. “Take your time and enjoy” Marco says, as he knows you waited on the line yourself to get in! So refreshing a place more interested in your satisfaction over making every possible euro they can each night.
When you are in a coastal area like this, swim and walk by the beautiful waters, but always eat away from the water in the little winding streets like this restaurant is in. Places by the water are tourist traps only about the view, not the food.
I’m on the plane ride home right now craving the cuttlefish & chickpea stew, gnocchi & beef stew, and stuffed peppers with homemade mash from Delistes!
Go there, make new friends while you wait in line, rather then staring at people eating trying to rush them lol. The place is worth the wait! And Marco won’t help you rush...
Read moreNot only is their menu extremely limited (didn't even have a single soup), their items completely underwhelming (don't expect an ounce of creativity), and their actual food horribly unseasoned (had to dump a bunch of salt & pepper to get any flavor), but their service is atrocious! We came at the recommendation of a tour guide, who described it as an "up and coming restaurant serving grandma's food" (which may very well be the only reason this place has gotten so popular if tourists are regularly given this advice).
Probably mistaking impracticality and dysfunction for novelty and ambiance, they only have about FOUR tables, which of course creates a line out the door. Worst of all is that literally after AN HOUR of standing and waiting after arriving at 9pm, the server just plopped down to socialize with customers for 10 minutes despite knowing a table had opened up, showing absolutely no professionalism or regard for other human beings. Needles to say, no "sorry for the wait" or "thank you for waiting," let alone any table side service after being seated - ultimately the staff are just overwhelmed and annoyed that customers are there, unless of course you want to be their drinking buddies. Upset that we even spent a penny here, but had no other alternatives...
Read moreThe experience in this restaurant is one of a kind! It’s like visiting one of your relatives. They greet you with a sense of humor and welcome you inside.
The place is tiny, and everyone is seated next to each other. Exactly as a traditional family dinner! You will feel right at home! The menu is limited and is written with the owner’s own hand writing in a pen on a piece of small paper!
The waiting time to get a table takes a while as the food is prepared for all of the guests at once. The waiting line outside keeps getting longer.
Now, for the best part. I had the Traditional Croatian Pašticada s njokima which is beef stew with Gnocchi. It was outstanding and something I never had before! It felt like Grandma’s good old times cooking!
The portion was big. I ordered a house salad as an appetizer. It was very fresh, but very huge! I couldn’t finish it as I was by myself. All of the other dishes that people ordered seemed excellent, as everyone was happy and eating quietly!
Best of all, the prices are very affordable provided that they are in the heart of Split Old Town!
Super friendly service, and the owner was very funny with great sense of humor!
Just note that payment in cash only.
This time I’ll say Must visit and not just Highly...
