A local micro-brewery, a Czech restaurant and a hotel in one near the centre - a good choice if you would like to try something other than a Budweiser Budvar beer.
And the popularity of this place confirms its quality - It's almost impossible to get a table on the Friday evening without reservation. The only option was to take a table in the cold entrance hallway, which we hesitantly accepted, because we were quite hungry. Unfortunately, that also meant the service was a bit slow and lacking, because it was behind another door quite far away from the kitchen and a bar.
To try their best, we ordered their household specials - steak and ribs along with recommended beers.
I'm on a life-long crusade to find the best ribs in the world, so I may be too harsh in my criticism, and although the ribs were not bad, they were nothing to write home about either. Plus, the portion was disappointingly small for the higher price. The grilled meat steak was much better, but also a bit overpriced for the portion size.
But the mediocre service and meals were definitely overshadowed by the tasty draft beers. So much, I actually took a bottle with me.
To sum up, there are better restaurants in Budějovice, but if you're thinking about trying their beer, don't hesitate and go for it. Just don't forget to make a reservation if you're coming...
Read moreWe absolutely loved this pension and restaurant.
Great location, just down the street from the historic main square. Lovely big room (2) overlooking the courtyard and restaurant below but it was nice and quiet. White, all newly renovated and spotlessly clean. Nice little touches like fresh chilled bottles of water, special coffees, lavender in the wardrobe, a recycling container etc. Although there’s no air-con, there’s a fan for the hotter days.
It was easy to arrange everything with our host, Jana, and although we didn’t meet in person, she was very communicative throughout our stay, making sure we were happy.
The restaurant and microbrewery downstairs is really great. We ate there twice and thoroughly enjoyed the food and beer. The waiting team are so friendly and helpful. The very kind waiter who showed us to our room also helped us carry our bags up the steep flight of stairs.
Krajinská street has everything on it we needed: a small supermarket for breakfast supplies, bars, restaurants, gelaterias. There’s an all-night restaurant across the road in case you get...
Read moreratebeer-rating from August 2020: a nice brewery-restaurant in the center of České Budějovice (Budweis), which is mostly visited by austrian tourists, the food is typical czech and they also have several international dishes, but all of them are fatty, but tasty the staff is fast and speaks fluently German (also the brewer, who was working as a lorrydriver for the austrian company BauMax) The beer is fine and I'd recommend the normal 11°-beer It is a bit mure expensive than the standard czech restaurant, but ist-äs fair and the atmosphere...
