Back Doors | Well Hidden Cocktail bar — Restaurant in Prague

This is one of the best cocktail bars I have visited. We were staying in Prague 5 rather than in Prague 1 (the centre), which I thought would make finding a decent cocktail bar difficult, but how wrong I was.

We arrived at our hotel late on my wife's 40th birthday. I suggested that we go out for at least one drink before going to bed and happened to notice there was a cocktail bar only a few minutes walk away. Reluctantly she agreed and off we went...

We were a little confused how to enter the bar, since you walk down this corridor that opens out a little into what looked like none was around and a few doors that looked locked. It turns one of these doors is actually unlocked and immediately takes you down some stairs. Still slightly skeptical we continued down the stairs, turned left and were greeted by one of the people behind the bar who told us to come in.

It was late Thursday evening, there were a few other groups and couples in the bar, but it was quiet enough that we were able to sit at the bar. We were presented with a glass of water each and their drinks menu. We ordered a few of the cocktails from the menu and watched the barman.making a few different drinks including our own. The drinks were good, we ordered a few more off the menu, again the drinks were good. We chatted a bit to the person serving us (I think his name was Prabhu, but please forgive me if I've got that wrong!). We decided to get some more drinks but test ordering something reasonably popular but off the menu. The barman was happy to oblige and produced some more very nice drinks.

We left at this point as it was getting late. However we did realise that using the metro to get to our hotel from Prague 1 on the next few evenings meant that we were only a couple of minutes walk from Back Doors.... Needless to say, we visited it on two more occasions. Prabhu was happy telling us about what was involved in the training that he'd done to work in this role. He was quite pleased that we were willing to order cocktails not on the menu, he even made some suggestions on changes he could make to various drinks we had talked about to suit our tastes based on previous drinks we'd had. He made my wife an old fashioned, slightly sweeter (I think using cedar in some way), with bergamot. She very much enjoyed this drink and had it on a couple of occasions. Everything that was made for me was also excellent.

We visited a number of other cocktail bars in Prague 1. Whilst they were nice and produced good drinks, None of them were able to provide us with the sort of personal service that Prabhu provided us on all 3 visits that we made to Back Doors.

It's worth noting that some evenings they seem to have some sort of thing happening. One of the evenings they had a DJ playing in the larger area. The Saturday evening they had Eurovision playing on a big screen in the same area, that transitioned to a DJ playing techno music or something (that was about 2am as we were leaving).

For anyone concerned about it's location, it's very easy to visit this place if you're in Prague 1, just 3 stops on the metro from mustek and a few minutes walk from there. Don't be put off by the fact that it's on the other side of the river.

If we go back to Prague in the future, we will certainly try to visit...

One of the best cocktail bars I’ve been to! Coming from NYC, I would like to think I know a thing or two about cocktails and Backdoors Bar blew me away. Jakub is a master craftsman and can create a unique, individualized drink based on your preference and mood. The amount of skill it takes to do this blows me away. The service is impeccable, everyone is so friendly, and the atmosphere is great. Whether you’re a cocktail expert or just getting into them, this is the place to go. I’ve told anyone who will listen that they should visit and I’ll be back the next time...
