Bokovka — Restaurant in Prague

A wine bar nestled in a courtyard that cannot be seen directly from the street, Bokovka remains a hidden gem in Prague that has quickly become one of our absolute favorites. This is a great hideaway spot up until some 8pm, when the regulars arrive. Bokovka, run by a team of young sommeliers managed by Roman Novotný, a former head sommelier of La Degustation Boheme Bourgeoise, ticks all the boxes: picturesque, run-down but cosy interiors combined with some modern design elements. A selection of very interesting cheeses, sausages from the sister Nase maso butcher shop dried in the cellar. Fermented vegetables and great sardines all pair well with the interesting natural wines from the Czech Republic and elsewhere (along with a healthy selection of bubbles from Champagne). And a low lighting level complements the unobtrusive soundtrack. What more would you want? A private cinema? You got it: Bokovka (the Czech title for the Sideways movie) is co-owned by a group of Czech filmmakers and artists and the cinema upstairs will play a curated selection of great movies. Bokovka is my definition and expectation for a cool wine bar. Atmospheric, it feels like you are retreating from the city, while equally feeling in it. Tucked away in a little courtyard, there is an extensive collection of great bottles and being in good company - chatting with the knowledgeable staff and picking the right wines to try is a fun process.

The ethos of the space is refreshingly simple: a curated selection of wines, friendly staff who genuinely want to guide you, and a warm space full of conversations and stories that make you feel cooler for being there.

Each recommendation hit the mark for me, but then there’s the unspoken genius of its relationship with Naše Maso, the very well known butcher shop around the corner. We got a couple of meatloaf sandwiches, sat with our wines and talked the drank a few glasses - it was a perfect way to pass some time in perfect company.

I was so exciting to spend my time with girls on my birthday. I wasn’t expect at all that my best friends will do cleaning instead of server girl. While we did pictures vase of lowers by mistake fall down on floor. I do understand situation that she said the cleaning women “doesn’t work” but I’m so sorry and I don’t understand why customers must to do themself. First time in life I had this bad experience to watching my friends do cleaning and server “stand comfortable and watching this”. Also on top she continue to do her duty with face like here is smell bad around us. It’s not nice vibe when I had my birthday evening.
