Bruxx offers high-quality Belgian fare, the mussels are particularly recommended. With Bruxx’s incredible turnover, I cannot think of a place where the mussels could be fresher other than getting them right at the sea.
As good as the regular menu options are; however, the truly excellent and sadly very little praised culinary experience is the periodic specials that chef Olda and his team of artists produce. I do not use the term Artist lightly or in a cliched way because I believe Art is what you will experience if you are fortunate enough to visit Bruxx during one of their Specials weeks. They are always pushing with great passion the boundaries of culinary art.
And by Art, I mean the art of flavor. We have dined there nearly two dozen times and now almost exclusively eat only during their Specials Week. Not every single dish will be life-changing, but if you are like us and order all the specials you will immediately recognize that a great deal of time, thought, and attention along with a fearless sense of experimentation was invested into each dish. There will invariably be standout dishes that will provoke conversation, and they will linger in your mind for days and cause longing for some time afterward.
The dishes typically focus on combining the highest quality ingredients in exciting and unexpected ways. There is also a great appreciation for textures and how they work in concert with the flavors to elevate the dish. To produce such creations Olda and his team prepare each dish with a great deal of technical skill but never in a way that would ever overshadow the main stars -- taste and texture. Therefore the best dishes we have experienced have never felt pretentious and can certainly compete alongside the best meals prepared at the top Michelin restaurants in the city. For a Belgian-themed Brasserie in Prague to offer such dishes at a very accessible price point is astounding. Olda and his team deserve a great deal of praise for the delicious and thought-provoking dishes they offer their guests.
For better or worse, restaurants are not only judged by their food but also by the level of service they provide their guests. Fortunately, Bruxx excels in this regard, as well. The wait staff and the managers operate with exceptional professionalism. And this is not according to the standards of the Czech Republic which are sadly quite low when it comes to customer service. No, the staff at Bruxx excels even by the standard of premier international culinary destinations.
So, with an open mind and desire to try these wonderful plates of Art, treat yourself and your loved ones to a wonderful experience visiting Bruxx during one of their Special weeks. You will not...
Read moreWe chose Bruxx for our Valentine's day dinner because we had done the same thing last year and it had been a pleasant experience. We had eaten upstairs and we enjoyed a quiet date with delicious food and good atmosphere. This year, however, we were shocked: the seats downstairs are incredibly uncomfortable. The tables are ridiculously small and placed so close to each other that you feel like your date is the person sitting by your side, rather than the one in front of you. To add insult to injury, the music was so loud I could barely hear my date, even less the waiters. The music wasn't adding anything, it ruins the atmosphere of the elegant space and makes it feel extremely tacky, like a shopping centre. As for the food, it was good. The selection of dishes seemed less attractive than last year, but there were still some good options. The mussels Tin Tin, which we had also eaten last year, were very good. We also had snails, which tasted great, but getting only 6 felt a bit ridiculous, especially for the prices. For the main dishes, we had the duck (nothing too special, not bad) and the "fideuá". It tasted delicious, especially the squid, however... It was not fideuá. Just call things by their name. It was a delicious dish of black conchiglie, just not fideuá. For dessert, we had the black and white (the best part was the pear ice cream, but the main part was too boring) and the pistachio crème brulé. The main part (the crème brulé) was very good, even though it was not crispy at all on the top. All the extra toppings were unnecessary (the ice-cream was a nice touch but the macaron was super dry and I'd rather not have it if it's not going to be good). The drinks (Casteel rouge cocktail and normal Casteel rouge) were very good
In general, very disappointed. Especially the music made the whole...
Read moreHonestly, disappointment.
I had a dinner here 8 years ago and this restaurant was an example of quality food and friendly service.
I write it from the point to improve further. And surely do not want to ruin the mark of the place, it's a nice place, but I really want the stuff will take the critical forward.
So that's the place with good memories I wanted to keep, that's why I brought my family to celebrate my son's birthday.
First of all, the stuff, was friendly, but there was some points, that destroyed our evening. We came 10 earlier, a table wasn't ready, so we had to make a round trip in lovely quarter Vinohrady. There is a winter, so, weather was OK, but the idea of hospitality was missed. But, never mind.
We had snails, that was pretty good, fried frog legs, good as well and nice Belgium beers. But when it came to soup and main dishes, it was beyond the level. The place is pretty expensive in Prague terms, so, I expected to more.
Onion soup was too sweet.
Basque's soup was not bad, but, as I said, I expected for more.
One of the octopus dishes was over salted. It was immediately replaced to normal one, but we got from the stuff guy sentence like, it has to be salty, cause it from the sea. Guys, don't do it. I had the dish before in Spain and France, I have the data to compare. Don't lead me to feel stupid. I destroyed everything.
So, the octopus we got for replacement was average, with no wow effect.
Mussels wasn't bad. It decent meal. Big portions. Nice sauce, but, as I said, without the wow effect, so I didn't cover up the disappointment.
Is it worth it? I am not sure.
Hope it was only mine experience. I was waiting for the years to have a dinner here, and it...
