Strongly recommend avoiding this place. The food was very mediocre, the service was appalling, and the prices were steep.
We knew it was a tourist trap going in, but it was our last evening, the restaurant was close to the hotel, and it had a decent rating. I honestly don’t understand how it doesn’t have a failing score. We were two adults and three small children. They seated us in an extremely cramped spot—so tight it was nearly impossible to get in or out.
The (friendly) waiter asked what we’d like to drink, and my husband requested a specific type of beer. The waiter, carrying a tray of beer glasses, said the one he had was more traditional and placed it on the table without giving us a choice.
Next to our table was a small stage the kids wanted to climb on. We asked the waiter if it was okay, and he said yes, just to be careful. Not two minutes later, a large, scowling man came over and snapped at us to get the kids off the stage. We tried to explain that we had received permission, but he didn’t care. We later saw him yelling at the same waiter.
Food: We ordered four main dishes, including adult portions for the kids. All the portions were small to very small.
Ribs: extremely dry and practically burnt Sausages: barely average (especially compared to what you get in Prague) Two dishes the waiter said were traditional—they were tasty but had no more than 150 grams of meat Fries: very dry Drinks: beer and three soft drinks, which arrived cold and quickly
Midway through the meal, a waiter came over with a tray of small shots. He offered us one each. My husband took one, and I politely declined because I’m breastfeeding and don’t drink alcohol. The waiter insisted it was traditional and not strong, making me feel uncomfortable about refusing—so I took one. Only after we had them in hand did he mention the price per shot. As if anyone would return it to the tray. Just an unnecessary trick.
The bill came to €90. Very expensive for the amount of food we received.
We sat for a total of 40 minutes, asked for the bill, paid at the counter, and started to leave. Suddenly, out of nowhere, that same angry tall guy grabbed my husband’s arm aggressively and asked if he had paid for the meal. What??? Who does something like that??? It was insulting, humiliating, frightening,...
Read moreWe are foreigners but locals, moved here months ago. We decided to book a table cause online recommendations and cause we had friends visiting town staying close to it. Service is very rude and pushy.
We arrived before our friends. Waiter number 1 starts pushing for drinks literally 2 minutes after opening the menu. Told him we were waiting for 2 more people and ordered just our beers. He starts sarcastically laughing and commenting that we could order all the drinks together. We explained they will be arriving in a few minutes and ordering after checking the menu themselves. All this followed by more sarcasm. He came to our table 2 more times asking for our friends drink order in a span of 4 minutes.
Our friends arrived, our beers arrived at the same time, a different waiter comes and starts treating us rudely cause he is the food waiter and we cannot order him drinks (like we would know that. Wear a shirt that says food waiter then). Waiter number 1 (Drinks waiter) comes and give us a nasty look cause now he has to bring 2 more beers for the new joiners. All this in a spam of 5 minutes.
There was a third waiter pushing for licor shots at least twice even when we told him we don't do licor the first time.
Food is average and prices are ok for the area in town the restaurant is located but you can get way much better options with a more cordial service and quality in downtown.
I understand downtown restaurants can get really busy during summer time but it's not our fault as paying customer that the staff gets annoyed after requiring a minimum of service and giving no hassle, just cause it took us an understandable period of time to order.
After such a service, they put a smile on their faces and almost impose you a 10% tip on your bill (Never happening in local restaurants outside Praga downtown but we'll happily agree to it if the service was good). So, if you want to be treated like an annoying tourist that doesn't know what is doing and be rush during your whole dining experience, this is the...
Read moreIf you like historical buildings and authentic old Prague atmosphere, U Fleků is definitely worth a visit. The vibe of the place is unique and really impressive. I would especially recommend it to people who enjoy history, as the interior feels like stepping back in time. However, the place truly comes alive only after 8 PM, when the accordion player arrives. Before that, it feels more quiet and intimate, almost like a smaller tavern rather than a buzzing beer hall.
The beer itself was good – nothing to complain about. It was served quickly and frequently, so your glass never stayed empty for long. It’s their own dark lager, and it definitely matches the reputation of a traditional Czech beer.
When it comes to food, I would call it average, especially considering the price. There is nothing particularly special about it – very typical Czech meals that you can easily find in many other pubs across Prague, often 30% cheaper and in some cases even tastier. It feels like the kitchen doesn’t put too much focus on quality, knowing that the majority of visitors are tourists who won’t have very high standards.
For tourists, I would still recommend coming here once. The restaurant halls themselves are an experience, the beer is enjoyable, and if you catch the live music, the atmosphere can be really fun. My advice would be to maybe just stick with cold snacks or something small to pair with the beer, but have your main meal somewhere else where the price isn’t so “touristic” and the food quality is higher.
Personally, I’ve been here around three times already, and I don’t see a reason to return again. I feel like I’ve tried enough, and it simply didn’t convince me to become a regular. Even the 0.4l beer at 90 CZK feels overpriced, despite being good. Overall, it’s a place worth experiencing once for the history and atmosphere, but not somewhere I would keep...
