Unfortunately I feel this restaurant is over-hyped. I was excited to visit here having seen their social media, but left feeling underwhelmed. It didn’t help how we were greeted. We walked in and waited at the door to ask for a table. After 2-3 minutes of being ignored I walked to a table to sit down. I was hurried after and told in a sarcastic tone that “in the Czech Republic we ask for a table”, which was news to me after 4 days of simply walking into restaurants and taking a seat. For reference, the waiter who did this wears glasses (I would hate the wrong staff member to take the blame for his rudeness). When the average steak price is around €25 I prefer not to be scolded like a naughty child.
The food was nice in general, but not memorable. The chorizo empanadas were tasty, the shrimps were nice at first until we had one that was less cooked than the others which was off putting. We tried a ribeye and tenderloin steak. They were both under-seasoned. The accompanying potatoes were slightly undercooked and again lacked salt. We ordered both steaks medium-rare. The ribeye was closer to medium and the tenderloin was rare to medium-rare. The “truffle” sauce barely tasted of mushrooms let alone truffles. The highlight was the cheesecake dessert with wine-marinated figs. The texture was very soft and creamy and the fig element was delicious. Unfortunately again though the other dessert of pineapple and coconut lacked “pizazz”. The pineapple core had been left mostly on so was tough, it had only been put on the grill to show marks not for actual cooking. The coconut ice cream could have been vanilla since the taste was so mild, and “mattress” of kadaif pastry turned out to be several random strands on the plate.
Our waiter did make an effort to be extremely animated and enthusiastic. This level of theatrical service isn’t quite to my taste but he did seem to be the most friendly staff member working there. Just a shame he poured water in my glass of white wine after joking he did it once before and asked us every time he poured water which glass was which.
If you don’t have much time in Prague I wouldn’t recommend taking one of your evening meals here. Maybe if you are a local and not on vacation these details would not bother you so much, but when you are trying to make the most of limited time, being greeted rudely and spending a fair amount of money of underwhelming food is...
Read moreIf I could give this place -1 stars, I would. The only positive thing I can say is that the lady who seated us was lovely and welcoming — everything after that was a complete disaster.
The waiter was one of the rudest, most arrogant people I’ve ever encountered in a restaurant. He ignored us, made us feel unwelcome, and when I politely asked for my steak to be cooked well done, he acted like I had insulted him personally. He even had the audacity to ask me if I’d ever eaten a rump steak before. As someone who genuinely loves steak, I found that comment not only condescending but downright offensive.
When the food arrived, they had managed to mess up both orders. I was given a medium steak instead of well done, and my friend got the well done when she had asked for medium. To make matters worse, the steak itself was disgusting — so burnt all you could taste was char, full of fat and gristle, and honestly something I could have cooked better myself at home. It was inedible, and for the price, absolutely insulting.
By this point, I was so uncomfortable and intimidated by the waiter’s attitude that I didn’t even feel able to complain. No customer should ever feel that way in a restaurant.
And then came the bill. We asked for the most basic, standard thing — to split it 50/50. Instead of simply doing it, the waiter dismissively told us that one of us should just pay and the other transfer the money later. Completely unprofessional, lazy, and frankly ridiculous.
This experience left me upset, angry, and completely disappointed. Between the hostile service, the appalling food, and the unprofessional handling of the bill, this was hands down one of the worst dining experiences I’ve ever had. The only thing that saved it from being a total zero was the kind lady who seated us — but everything else was unacceptable.
Avoid this place...
