U Pravdů — Restaurant in Prague

We went the first time for dinner on the 23rd of december 2023, we went inside waited for the waiter to come give us a seat and had dinner without reservation. We came back again on the 26th of December, we looked from outside and there were more than 3 empty tables with no indication on them that they were reserved, we were putting our first foot to get inside, wait for the waiter to seat us like the first time we were there and to get in the warm because we have a baby and it was 6 degrees, I hear someone shouting loudly from the other part of the restaurant: “hey! Hey! Where are you going?” In a very disrespectful way even before knowing if we have a reservation or not. I told her we want to eat. She asked also in a disrespectful way if we have a reservation and we said no, she shouted you can’t come in. I have travelled a lot around the world and it is the first time i encounter such disrespect in the hospitality field. I couldn’t really understand the reason of this behaviour, could be racism and she only want local clients, could be she didn’t feel like having a baby in the restaurant that night,… i saw more than a dozen of comments about the rude behaviour of this particular person and i see that the owner keeps defending her and disrespecting people even more. A few friends and I took a trip to Prague and our plan was to eat some traditional Czech food. This restaurant matched that criteria according to the description and was reviewed well.

The place looked nice, we really liked the decorations. It just matched the surroundings perfectly. The waitress has been friendly as well and we really enjoyed having the menu in German as well.

So far so good I decided to oder the duck en pork with mixed dumplings with a few other friends. Our opinion differs a lot here but that's personal preference I think. Therefore I will only post my own opinion about the dish. I didn't like that the same dish looked differently on two tables. The duck on my plate was a piece of duck breast while my friend had duck leg. I think every dish should be designed so that the table looks the same. In addition there was not enough sauce for the mixed dumplings. I had to eat around 30 percent without any sauce left. The meat was well baked and the sauerkraut and red cabbage were fine, the dumplings okay. I might be a bit spoiled about that because I love German dumplings 😁.

Nice evening we had here. It was a cosy little room with old decor. Why there is a sleigh hanging around I did not understand, but the various music instruments that were put on planks were well placed. Apart from this the furniture was rustic but not with too dark wood, which I liked.

The communication with the waitresses was a bit difficult and one of them had some sort grinch vibe on her. All in all they tried to help us and be good host.

Food was very good. We hat the trout, which was very delicious and the schnitzel with fries. While the schnitzel was perfect, the fries were a bit too soft for my like, but for other people with different taste, they might have been perfect.

Additionally we ordered 2 desserts. We had the vanilla ice with whipped cream, which could have been more ice. We also had the palačinky qith hot red fruit mix. The pamcake from the palačinky was a bit oily, which is why the fruity taste was put back a little. All in all it was nothing exceptionally special but allright.
