After a wonderful week in Copenhagen enjoying some of the most consistently excellent food my wife and I have ever had, we had the misfortune of ending our trip having dinner at Basso. We were not particularly hungry but were forced to have the 13 dish Sunday set menu. Not a single one of the dishes we had was good. The servings ranged from mediocre (at best) to bad. The flavors were confusing. The textures were unappetizing. I really have no explanation other than, as another review suggests, the Sunday set menu is simply their chefs getting rid of expiring food at the end of the week. Even, surprisingly, the cocktails were not enjoyable (the first red flag of the evening)
The service was OK. Our waitress was quite nice. However there were long waits between dishes. We waited nearly an hour before we got our first serving of food. Ultimately the experience felt like a waste of time given the quality of the food.
The ambiance was quite nice and having an air conditioned basement was pleasant given the summer heat. Overall the restaurant seemed to have a lot of potential but failed miserably at the core...
Read moreWe tried the Sunday menu, which is a 13 servings menu that is not the same as their regular set menus. We got some nice bread as soon as we were seated. The snacks in the beginning were good, my least favourite was the potato. The starters were good, including a tartar which was great, a ceviche which was interesting but not that great, and a fermented tomato salad which I really liked, but might not be for everyone. From the mains, the chicken skin was cooked to perfection and the cauliflower dish was delicious. The pasta and broccolini were both ok, although the pasta serving was too big. The desert was a panacotta with red beets and red fruit and it was excellent. For most of the dishes, you could tell that the kitchen staff is detail oriented, and they do textures really well. I personally love the combination of soft with creamy and crunchy. The service was friendly and the pacing for the dinner was good. Overall, I was happy with the evening and I am thinking I'd like to come back on a different Sunday to see what other ideas they will...
Read moreI brought all my colleagues to Basso for a company party, where we enjoyed their 13-course tasting menu with free beers, wine, and cocktails included. The entire menu is built around a sharing concept, and the food—an Italian fusion with a Danish twist—was consistently tasty and well-prepared.
We were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the cocktails, which were far better than what you would expect from an all-you-can-drink deal. My favourites were the ones with passion fruit and grape. I could have happily sipped those all evening.
We spent several hours in the basement, enjoying the food and atmosphere. It was a great evening overall, though the air became quite warm and heavy after a while. And while all the dishes were good, they leaned a bit on the safe side, with nothing that truly stood out—except for the chicken, which was incredibly tender and practically melted in my mouth.
It was around 1.000 kr. per person for everything which I thing was...
