What makes a restaurant good/great? Is it the food..? The ambience… ? Hospitality? Or how the establishment makes their guests feel?
I have grown up learning if you don’t have anything good to say about something - don’t speak. But here I have to override that and talk about our experience at this over hyped establishment.
From the moment we entered the space - we were clearly not welcomed. The host (a blonde man in a checked shirt) profiled us like we don’t belong. And then allotted us a table like he was being generous (the restraint was half empty) I had made reservations and he pretended not to have it.
Anyway we were falling for the hype so we just ignored the racial profiling. Then he sent his colleague to attend…. Who throughout the 1.5 Hour we were there made us feel we didn’t belong and should leave as fast.
We still ignored. In the time we were there - I carefully observed the male host (who upon asking for his name - refused to revel) was only warmly welcoming customers who were white/european and blatantly looking down upon those who didn’t look like him.
Since we were sitting next to the gate - saw him turn down many Asian customers and letting locals and Caucasians in even without reservations. Only then did I decide to post this review.
We still took the higher road and ignored this really embarrassing graciousness. Maybe hospitality is not part of Danish culture.
For the food and drinks. The drinks were really good… the food average. Now I fail to understand the hype about this restaurant. The hummus was nice. The artichoke decent but the truffle pasta - abysmal. A restaurant of this standard not making their own pasta - and then serving this disappointing this. It’s hilarious - particularly when the team has such unnecessary attitude.
This made me realise no matter what you bring to the table - if your behaviour is pathetic - your restaurant is a failure. Their food didn’t jump out of the plate so I don’t understand the attitude.
And if your food is good then wouldn’t you be more excited to have people from all over come and feel happy and welcomed and make them enjoy. Rather than throwing looks and stared at them - as they don’t belong. And if that is the case then just put a board say “White Only”
We were so excited to eat here but after how we were treated - it was so disappointing and it just reflects on the Danish culture.
We run restaurants too and this experience taught us - how not to treat customers.
Hope they read this and introspect.
Your food was average. Drinks were really good. But your team pathetic. And it hurts me to right this review. But I...
Read moreThis restaurant was recommended to me by a Copenhagen local who had worked in the restaurant business so of course we had try it. I would say the overall rating is 3.5 but let’s round it up to 4.
First, let’s talk about the good: The food overall was pretty good with a couple of highlights. The quail legs and waffle were the stand outs. The quail legs were cooked perfectly, the portion size was great for 2-4 people, the only thing I would recommend is a sprinkle of Maldon salt before service to bring out more flavor. The waitress said that the waffle is very popular and I can see why. It was salty, creamy and carby. What’s not to love. Everyone raved about the cod but I thought it was just ok, perhaps because it was luke warm when it arrived at the table. I found the sauce a tad too sweet, which overpowered the fish and the asparagus. We also ordered the tuna tartare, lobster linguini and the potato wrapped in pastry. Tuna was pretty standard, had a citrus Asian flavor; the potato was very French, heavy on butter and truffle. A tad rich but still enjoyable. We also ordered the lobster roll, pretty standard, nothing to write home about. They are definitely generous in the ingredients they use which was nice to see.
Now, let’s talk about the not so good: Service wasn’t bad but we did notice that being a family of color, we were definitely deprioritized by our waitress. I don’t think it was prejudice but rather a level of discomfort like she didn’t know if we spoke English or if she would be able to converse easily with us. The service was slower than we liked but they did get very busy. The one thing that was a big minus was how all the main dishes came out at different times. I was really surprised by this, isn’t a cardinal rule to have all appetizers arrive at once, followed by main all at once. The lagged timing made it difficult for us to enjoy all our meals together so it was took away the rhythm and vibe of the entire dining experience.
Overall, I would say the meal was worth it. They clearly use high quality ingredients and the dishes are innovative but experimental. We spent almost KR 1500, which converts to just over 200 dollars. This was still cheaper compared to what you’d pay in New York for a...
Read moreQuite disappointed from the 10 servings menu! I give 2 stars, because it was not the worst.
However, to elaborate on why it was really bad: 1.) We were 4 people and basically that did not matter about the size of the portion, since the people next tabel were 2 and they got the exact same size meal as we did. Not to mention that in the serving with salami and prosciutto other people around had pate and we did not (which was very confusing). 2.) Horrible selection of food - the tasting menu did not have anything wow, it included 2 types of pastа one of which was not even seasoned.
3.) But the most disappointing was the amount of food we got. I repeat, for 4 people we got a 1/4th of a fish and the it was the part where the tail is, and the as “steak” we had 1/8 (perhaps) of a steak cut in 4 pieces with the size of а finger.
The whole experience was dissatisfactory (having in mind that you spend 450 DKK/per person) having in mind what the menu contains and compared with going there with someone from the industry (when you actually get to taste what’s good).
In conclusion: I dont know whether it was just bad luck that the menu was what it was this time, or the fact we said we were from a foreign country. Feels like a waste of money, since some of the dishes in the menu were less than 100 DKK and if their size doesn’t depend on the amount of people it would be way cheaper to just order one of each and it will be even CHEAPER ! My recommendation to others is -NOT to try the serving menu and instead get something more special for the amount of money. Personally I will NOT go there AGAIN, nor the...
