I was in Copenhagen just for the day, and I’m so glad I made time for Kunsthal Charlottenborg. Tucked just off the bustling Nyhavn area, this spot offers a refreshing change of pace—calm, creative, and quietly stunning. On the other side of the canal, you can admire the elegant Charlottenborg Palace itself, a beautifully preserved 17th-century residence originally built for the half-brother of King Christian V. Today, the palace is home to the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, and the exhibition space—Kunsthal Charlottenborg—is a fascinating mix of old and new. The building’s architecture reflects Dutch Baroque style with Italian influences, which gives it an impressive and stately feel, while the contemporary art inside is fresh, bold, and thought-provoking. It’s a beautiful contrast: centuries-old walls housing boundary-pushing modern works. Whether you’re into visual art, design, or just love exploring less touristy cultural spots, this one’s well worth a visit. If you're walking the canal or exploring Nyhavn, it's an easy and...

Went in excited to see what current contemporary artists in Copenhagen have to offer. Was thoroughly disappointed. Boring, found-object installations that evoked no feelings, almost comical in name and display (but clearly not intentionally). We're talking Barbie dolls on the floor, a stack of hard drives, and dolls hanging from the wall, with the most basic, minimal-thought stories behind the works. The best works in there were 2 fairly bland paintings and a montage of movie card intros, not exciting. Certainly not worth the 10ish GBP ticket. Not recommended, even for contemporary art fans, especially not for anyone...

Political art is a hard genre. Charlottenborg Kunsthal focused on civil disobedience and rebeling. In the exhibition or a Turkish artist and Yoko Ono. One exhibition was fragmented and superficial, the other an obscure historical record. The documentary on Aaron Swartz was quite good though. It portrayed an online activist who took part in shaping important political developments surrounding the new digital reality. There is so much to dive into in this area, and it is very relevant as we all use devices...

free entry every Wednesday from 1700h - 2000h wow, idk what else to say except that the exhibits felt like a fever dream.. each square had its own highlight, and I came in here not knowing what to expect, and each exhibit was a surprise of it’s own Really contemporary and this made me question things. Is this the true purpose of art?

It's not one of the bigger museums in the city but its contemporary collection with a strong focus on the bigger issues the world faces today left a truly lasting impression on me. 5+ stars!! This museum does what many try but few really get right. It shows art with a message without being preachy or high-blown.
