Den Vandrette — Restaurant in Copenhagen Municipality

My favorite summer spot in Copenhagen is Rosforth & Rosforth, where the wines are interesting and the service friendly and down to earth. So we decided to explore their indoor wine bar Den Vandrette last night.

Their wine selection is very good and the food and decor 👍 Good music and overall vibe. But we sat for 1 hour (!) before the first glass of wine arrived at our table and even longer for the food. We were completely ignored by the 3-4 waiters working quite a small room and had to actively get up and tell them to notice us. The waitress that had forgotten us gave us an apology, but then didn’t follow up with better service after that (she forgot our food order 2 times). The night concluded with another waitress not knowing anything about the only vermouth on their wine list (just wanted to know if it was dry or sweet).

I would be more than happy to just write this critique directly to Den Vandrette, but an email address is impossible to find. It doesn’t seem like they read these google reviews as my experience is clearly shared with many other past customers without replies. What a shame for...

I really wish I could give this place 5 stars. The food deserves 10! Just amazing. Not to mention lovely selection of natural wine. Best food we ate on our 4 day trip to København. The location and the interior and atmosphere as well, superb, 5 stars! The service though... English speaking guy inside and a tall tattooed guy with pearcings outside were very rude. Like not just normal rude with not smiling and such, but actually rude commenting and such. The top one probably being when 2 lovely young ladies came in and asked (in Danish) if there were free tables inside and the guy rolls his eyes and says "I don't understand what your saying". And these ladies need to apologize to him for not speaking English. Like WHAT?! Obviously totally wrong choice of work for those 2 guys. At the same time, 2 other guys that came with the food (I think they were Danish, but not 100% sure. Both had long hair) were super nice and professional. Top service!! Again, the food was amazing. Definitely going back. Just hope that I can give 5...

It breaks my heart that I can't be back there, immersed in the decadent tastes, smells, and super chill and warm vibe which Den Vandrette so slickly and subtly offers. We were there in late December of 2019. I'm pretty sure that getting a reservation is necessary during most popular seasons, but I think there were some walk-ins as well as plenty of people who just chilled at the bar during out time there.

From the bread, butter, appetizers, and wine through the entrées and desserts, it was truly a culinary experience to be remembered. We had revolved our little escape to Copenhagen between Christmas & New Years around "affordable fine dining". This place was certainly on the pricier side of affordable, but by no means terribly expensive, and I honestly would've paid twice as much for the experience and meal and felt I was still getting a deal.
