You can take the girl out of Cambodia, but you can never take the Cambodian out of her - especially when it comes to her love for rice! I mean, seriously, I need my daily dose of rice or I'll go bonkers (not literally, but you get the point). So imagine my surprise when I stumbled upon a Khmer restaurant in the middle of Copenhagen! Like, what in the world?! Not only was I ecstatic to satisfy my Asian food cravings, but I also felt the need to support my fellow Khmer people thousands of kilometers away from home.
I had been in Copenhagen for a few days, jetlagged and not eating or sleeping properly. Danish hotdogs were okay, but let's be real, they didn't quite hit the spot for me. I was feeling strangely not hungry, even after walking 24.5 miles and over 50,000 steps in one day exploring the city. Like, come on, I should be starving!
But then, Google led me to this Khmer cuisine spot and I was shook. I had read the reviews and had some expectations, but I knew I had to try it for myself. I was craving this sour beef soup called machu kruek, and even though it wasn't on the menu, they said they could whip it up just for me. I was on cloud nine!
Let me tell you, that soup was the bomb dot com. It was so delicious and satisfying, the first proper meal I had in Copenhagen. Hands down, the best Khmer restaurant I've been to in Europe and the USA. And trust me, I've tried a lot of Cambodian spots in the States. This place was a gem, and I'll definitely be...
Read moreThe food here is delicious and unique. I'm very much a foodie and there were a number of things on the menu that I have never heard of, let alone tried. My appetizer and main course were both outstanding. The lemonade is a must-try, it's refreshing and very unique. My one gripe with this restaurant is the service. It wasn't bad, just lackluster. The server didn't really say anything to me until I was paying my check. Just as an example, typically servers will ask you if you're ready to order. I was obviously ready to order, and the server just walked up to me and looked at me without saying anything. Is that necessarily rude? No. But it gives off an air of disinterest. There was only one other table of people with me in the restaurant, and they had to ask the server for more water. An attentive server would have noticed this (and taken care of it) before being asked.
I guess if you set your expectations correctly, this restaurant is definitely worth trying for it's Khmer dishes that are hard to...
Read moreI had the pleasure of dining at Khmer Cuisine in Copenhagen, and it was an absolute delight! The moment I walked in, I was warmly welcomed by the friendly staff and the cozy atmosphere.
But the real star of the show was the food - oh, the food! I ordered the Fish Amok and the Beef Lok Lak, and both dishes were expertly prepared and full of flavor. The spices were perfectly balanced, and the ingredients were fresh and high-quality. I could taste the love and care that went into cooking each dish.
The service was also top-notch, with attentive and knowledgeable staff who were happy to answer my questions about the menu and offer recommendations. And the prices were very reasonable, especially considering the generous portion sizes.
Overall, I would highly recommend Khmer Cuisine to anyone looking for a delicious and authentic Cambodian dining experience in Copenhagen. I can't wait to come back and try more of...
