If you enjoy service with a smile or even helpful instruction on how to order - this isn’t it. Apparently I was in the wrong line to order, so after waiting a while behind the large family in front of me (who apprently were not in a wrong line?), when I finally reached the counter, the waiter ripped the menu away, and then told me ‘the line starts there!’ as if I had been intentionally trying to cheat my way in frontof the line. Um? That line - to his right, instead of this one in front of him - had formed after I arrived, I watched it happen as I waited my turn. I had zero way of knowing that apparently that part of the counter was the appropriate one for some obscure reason. I waited again, now behind two new couples. Got my order in, founda place to sit. When my food arrived, the same waiter brought it - zero words along the line of ‘enjoy your meal’. Theonly other time an employee interacted with me was when a girl passed my table, ripped my finished bowl, then returned to also rip away the cutlery that was ready for new guests on all the tables. She only took the one on my table, while glaring at me like I was the devil. What the heck? Again, zero words. Not even a ‘I hope you enjoyed your meal?’ You get the distinct impression they are seriously underpayed, and need to place their hate somewhere, and the closest place os the customer. Or maybe I did everything wrong, but then I would suggest being a LOT more clear on what customers are not supposed to do here. I felt very unwelcome. And just realized I paid 56,- for a ginger beer. Wowza. Go here if you want to tap into Kierkegaardsk existential...
Read moreIf you're in need of Asian cuisine to spice up your taste buds, Tonkin is a life saver. Due to the cold, we were craving for something hot and spicy and in the midst of combing the streets, chanced upon this Vietnamese restaurant.
Upon entering, the smell of the famous pho beef noodle soup immediately brought back memories. We were seated quickly in a cozy area and within minutes, were attended to.
We ordered one beef pho, one chicken pho, one prawn fritters and tonkin tea. As my wife was feeling under the weather, the tonkin tea with its strong ginger elements, helped her relieve her sinus almost immediately and provided a soothing warm relief against the cold. When the pho arrived, the spice and the aroma reinvigorated our taste buds and provided extra warmth we were craving for.
The customer service was also top notch and even though they were busy, always made it a point to be attentive to customers. Overall, a great place and will definitely drop by again when we're in...
Read moreFar too SPICY, NOISY, UNFRIENDLY :( and unsafe (no Coronapas asked at the entrance) These people probably never been to Vietnam because the food faaaaaar too spicy. We usually eat spicy food but the soup we ordered was impossible to eat. We complained to the waiter because the menu didn’t mentioned that it was spicy but she told us in a very unfriendly way “that’s how we make it” but it is possible it could be their normal way to make it otherwise they would probably have no client. The only explanation possible is that their cook doesn’t any clue of how much chili he uses… Very difficult to hear each other and the loud music doesn’t help The staff was also very unfriendly from the beginning. It felt like we were wrong for showing up without booking a table. Very few smile and no service...
