Super overhyped. The positive reviews of this place don’t reflect the reality that there are just much better bakeries in Copenhagen and other capital cities, even in Asia, that this place cannot hold a candle to.
Pastries are a far cry from what I’ve tasted even in the far east. What a disappointment. They lack the finesse and care that go into the best bakeries. Croissants are surprisingly soggy and the crusts lack the crisp structure you are promised when you close your eyes and imagine what to expect when you see the unjustified lines outside.
Even upon sight of the almond croissant, you can tell something is just mid about everything. It’s not a disaster, but it’s just fine, normal and nothing to shout about.
The cardamom brioche smells of a wonderful warming embrace, and the scent fills you with the anticipation of the perfume to fill your mouth, but the texture and slight sogginess of the pastry itself just lets that wonderful aroma down. Maybe the pastries just need to be toasted freshly before you tuck in.
The coffee is weak and lacks any body. But they use good quality milk that salvages some of the experience. There are plentiful other cafes and coffee shops to get a better caffeine fix.
The saving grace was the charming and pleasant team of young adults who run this place who are polite, have easy smiles and are never flustered despite the long queues that from...
Read moreSo, today we went to Buka to have breakfast and we’re a bit disappointed. We arrived around 9:00am (bakery opens at 7:00am) and there were just a few options available. We asked for a pistachio croissant, an almond croissant, a bread with cheese and a cappuccino. The ladies were ok but not too kind. We got our food but not our cappuccino because the rest of the pastry options arrived at 9:15 at buka. The ladies completely forgot about our cappuccino and only cared about the food that had just arrived. We waited for 5 minutes or so and they started taking orders from other customers. We think it’s a bit weird that only two hours after the opening of the bakery that the food arrived. In Portugal (where we’re from) the bakers start working at 4am so that the food is ready when it opens. We don’t even know anymore if pastries are made by them and they just add the fillings or if they produce everything somewhere else. The food was pretty good but I didn’t really enjoy the cappuccino. Our overall experience was ok. Can’t know for sure if it was just a bad day but yeah, that was our experience. My biggest recommendation is for the ladies that work there. Don’t be so cold to your customers. It doesn’t take much to be kinder. I don’t care if we’re strangers and from a different culture. You should always be kind to...
Read moreAs I was waiting at the line I thought to myself “this is way too expensive no way I am going to think it was worth it”, and boy was i wrong. If you are into cardamom I can almost guarantee that their cardamom bun will make it to your top 5. The dough is so pillowy and soft, cardamom in bursting out in every bite, and it is soaked in some type of syrup that gives it such a balanced sweetness. I hate a sweet breakfast but I can confidently say that I would stuff my face in this every morning if I could. I was so busy admiring the cardamom bun that it took me a couple hours to get to the other pastry I had purchased. The quality of the butter they use must be insane because I think this is one of the flakiest most flavorful doughs I have ever had. Raspberries are relatively bad in Copenhagen, no offense, but even the raspberries were better than I had anticipated. I totally recommend giving this place a shot. In total the two pastries cost around 93 dkk. I went quite early in the morning and I was unable to spot the famous custard filled danish (have no clue on the actual names, sorry). Really upset that I couldn’t try more,...
