Onno's Zona Colonial Bar & Restaurant — Restaurant in Santo Domingo

Cute place but server was awful. My husband ordered the taco sampler and I ordered 4 individual tacos on taco Tuesday. The waitress refused to order my tacos and said the same kind were on my husband's sampler. So she refused my order. I later ordered one taco which was so much better than the sampler. A band then played which was nice and we had a couple of drinks. We asked for the check and gave the waitress our credit card. She came back and said the card didn't run. That had happened at our hotel the night before when the wifi timed out before the card could run. So maybe it is true the card didn't run but maybe she was just dishonest. The check had an amount in USD on it - $53 so we gave her $60 USD in cash. She pulled out a calculator and showed us we owed her something like $350? Insane. She insisted. She then tried to take the bill from me but I took it and I went to the bar and showed the bartender the bill and the $60 USD. Note that the current exchange rate should have only been $47 USD. The waitress was not honest. I wish we had not given her a tip at all. The restaurant was nice and it is such a disappointment to have it ruined by one dishonest waitress. I would gave recommended this place but not if they are going to treat tourists so...

Do not come here. Had the guac & salsa and chips, guac was yellow or they said it’s because of the avocados they use but there was no onions, tomatoes, Cilantro so that didn’t make sense Salsa was just tomatoes. I said okay, then i got the veggie burger and fries and idk how you can mess up fries but it tasted like they were soggy with oil. Drinks are either too sweet or blah. My friend got the shrimp mofongo and she said it was rock hard. She said the buffalo wings tasted like Chinese food wings. Had tech difficulties with music, waited 45 min to order food because they said they are prepping something in the kitchen. It seems this place is trying to cater to Americans by trying to make it like an American lounge but left unsatisfied with my stomach hurting and wanted to go to another place. It’s a bait and switch. They have told me it was 6 presidente beers for the price of 5 presidente beers. It was supposed to be around$ 800 pesos as per the menu. Then they charge me for each beer individual. Almost double the bill. It was only $40 bucks in total and I had a great time but they do charge more if you are an American. And I don’t like Trump but I find his main concern totally valid. Treat Americans with respect. You said it was this much then charge me this much. They also forgot to give me 2 beers. The manager acted like an idiot when it told her what had happened. Changing the conversation every time I showed her the price in the menu. My experience was great until they overcharged me.
