This was the worst dining experience I’ve ever had. On June 30th, a sunny summer day with temperatures over 20°C, we visited around 1 PM. I noticed that every other table had a large bottle of chilled lemon water with ice. There were six of us, three adults and three kids, and we ordered three paid drinks — including coffee, beer, and a fruit beverage. Naturally, I assumed our table would also be given a bottle of lemon water, like the others.
Instead, the server only brought the three paid drinks. The other three people at our table weren’t even given glasses. The restaurant wasn’t busy, and I could see the staff standing around near the bar doing nothing. We sat there for over 5 minutes without water.
I finally called over a server and asked for a large bottle of lemon water and some glasses. She brought us a bottle of room-temperature lemon water — no ice. Thinking maybe there was a language issue, I asked another server, pointed to the table next to us, and said clearly, “I’d like a bottle of lemon water with ice, like theirs.”
What happened next absolutely shocked me: he took the leftover lemon water bottle from the now-empty neighboring table — water that had already been used by other guests — and poured it into our bottle right in front of me.
I told him, “I don’t want someone else’s leftovers. I want a new bottle with ice.” He finally brought a proper one and said, “I thought you wanted this one.” I explained again: “I meant a new bottle with ice, like theirs — not their actual leftover water.”
I have never, in my life, been served another table’s leftover water at a restaurant — let alone have it done right in front of me. I honestly don’t believe they would do this to other guests. At the very least, they wouldn’t be so brazen about it.
I strongly feel we were treated differently because we are Asian. If you want respectful service and not to be treated unequally, I do not recommend this place. The...
Read moreI was there 24 of september. Very rude blonde waitress. She doesn't speek russian and very badly speak English. She even can not tell in English what ingredients in seafood soup. In my mind, if you are working in cafeteria where is lot of tourists from different countries and live in country where is about 30-40 percent russian people, you should speak russian language. Or at least you should speak frequent English. I am russian living in US. I don't have to learn estonian language to visit Estonia. I would like that service staff could understand me and I understand them. They should know at least frequent english. And don't mix English words with estonian. When I told her that she should know better English, she told me back that I am rude and run inside of cafeteria. We didn't know what to think. If she going to serve us or not. In 5 minutes she returned and bring piece of paper on which it was written 3 ingridients of this soup. Googl it?))) And also, it is shame do not speak russian in country, where live so many Russian-speaking people and where is so many Russian- speaking tourists. Owner lost clients... We left an I glad we did. Because we found restaurant Troyka where was great service...
Read moreBest food yet on the trip. I was too hungry to get a picture first - sorry! Looked good, smelt good, tasted good and was not over priced.
But it was absolutely delicious, I cannot recommend the octopus enough. Lots of 1 star reviews critiquing service but we had no issue, wasn't super super speedy (if that's what you want maybe try mcdonalds rather than a relaxed sitdown in quaint sun-trap cobbled street) but we didn't wait long for the very friendly team to see us, take our order and bring our food and drinks. I saw a 1 star critique of their lack of Russian speaking staff, as 30-40% of the population speak Russian. All I can say is perhaps the 30-40% should learn to speak Estonian as the native language of the country and 60-70% of the population. Had no problem speaking English here though, all the staff we spoke to had far better English than any of my other languages so I can't complain.
Ignore all the poor reviews, we've had plenty of good food in Estonia, but this was the best (as...
