Neitsitorn at different times throughout history has been an atelier for artists (pictured), used for defense, storage and as a prison. Today it is a museum and part of a well preserved part of the fortification wall accommodating four towers altogether.

The name is a mistranslation of the German word Meghe/Maedge/Magd/Maedchen, after its first tower master Hinse Meghe.

The top hosts a lovely Cafe with 70s type phantastic realist furniture that unfortunately wasn't open much in recent years (when I would have finally had time to...

The cafe on the top floor is only open in spring-summer (closes 1 September) and the exhibit in the basement of this particular tower (Neitsitorn/Maiden Tower) is small - if you have the time/money, get the full Kiel in de Kök/Bastion passages\4 towers pass (€14, about 4 hours), as they are all connected by the medieval town wall. Or if you don't have the time/money, just circle through the Danish King's Garden, Commandant's Garden and Freedom Square to see these towers/wall from...

You need to pay the museum fee if you want to visit the café - it's 3€, but if you have previously visited museum and only want to go there for a coffee and view I think it's kind of greedy. I did make a comment about this, but paid anyway. After paying my fee the lady at the cashier desk told me to go somewhere else if I was not pleased. I can tell you that after that everyone heard what I did think about her - being so rude you should never work in a...

Walking on the city walls with panaromic view of the old town is so beautiful. There ise also small exhibitions in the tower. It is written that Maiden Tower used as residence for artists after the war times. There is a presentation of living area and workshop of a painter which is very impressive. The entrance fee for the city walls is 4€. If you're student it is 1€. Definatelly worths 4€! You can add to your to do list in Tallinn.

Nice little museum area, didn't take long to see. I went there after already seeing the Kiek in de Kock and the Bastion passages. I had a 24-hour Tallinn Pass and was in Tallinn on a 9-hour stopover on a Norwegian Getaway 9-day Baltic Cruise in August 2019. Rick Steves "Scandinavian & Northern European Cruise Ports" Guidebook was a great help and this sight was part of the self-guided "Tallinn Walk" in the book.
