Skills Ski Chamonix — Local services in Bonneville

This is a belated review for Flavien for happy reasons. :)

About a month ago, I went on a solo ski trip to the French Alps with the goal of skiing better. For the longest time, I got lazy going to the same mountains in the US and never really worked on progressing my skiing. I was in between this awkward snowplough / parallel stage and just couldn’t seem to get better, and was absolutely terrified of going down slightly steeper hills. I’ve had a few lessons in Chamonix and Flavien is easily one of my favorites / the best. Even though the day I skied with him, it was dumping insane powder in Les Houches and I skied like absolute garbage (turning is just ten times harder when it’s knee deep powder and none of the runs were groomed LOL). But somehow, whatever he said to me during the lesson just clicked?! I finally understood what it means to “lean forward, look up, bend your downhill knees”!! I just got back from skiing a few days in Tahoe (groomed conditions + bluebird days), had my husband film me, and I was shocked by how much my form has improved. I still have such a long way to go, but I feel so much more in control and confident skiing now! I can’t recommend Flavien enough and can’t wait to return to Chamonix and take lessons with him again. My boyfriend and I booked two days of lessons with Flav this past December. This is my 4th ski trip ever but it had been 4 years since the last trip. I needed to regain the basic skills and confidence. Although the ski conditions weren’t ideal, Flav made sure we got the most out of each day. He’s extremely technical but in a friendly and casual manner. Flav is a teacher by nature. He really wants his students to learn so he will often ask questions to make sure what he’s teaching is sinking in, which I really liked! There were times when I was nervous about certain runs but he was patient and understanding and let me go at my own pace.

I booked a lesson for my wife and I with Flavien on our first day in Chamonix and it was exactly what I hoped for. He was patient and easy to get along with, and communicating with him was easy. The day was delayed due to avalanche concerns and he went out of his way to ensure we received the full time we had allotted. He speaks fluent English, which was great for us as we're Americans that can't speak any French, and he even taught us a bit about French culture that was a big help during other parts of our vacation. Later in the week we took on blue runs for the first time and my wife praised Flavien, crediting him for helping her to be able to control her speed.
