My partner and I had dinner here the other night. My partner is allergic to milk protein, so she cannot eat milk and dairy products like cheese and butter, as the consequences could be fatal.
We made the reservation in person at the restaurant and mentioned the issue to the waiter right away, who assured us that they would take the utmost care.
When we arrived at the restaurant for dinner, we repeatedly reminded the same waiter who took our reservation and who was serving us about my partner's condition.
When it came time for dessert, the waiter ASSURED my partner that she could safely eat a dessert on the menu, insisting that there was no milk or dairy in the recipe.
As soon as the dish arrived at the table, my partner took a bite and immediately realized that the crumble at the bottom of the dish contained butter.
We called the waiter over and, angry, we pointed out the serious oversight. He responded, "Oh, yes, there is butter!" He took the plate away and disappeared for at least twenty minutes. When we finally asked for the bill, he came to the table with it, and my partner rightfully explained how serious the situation was and that she could have died. Annoyed, he pointed to the bill and replied, "But I didn’t charge you for the dessert," and then walked away. When he returned, my partner, now really upset, explained how serious the mistake was and that a bigger discount should be applied for the damage caused.
He called the manager, who came to the table, also annoyed, and we explained what had happened. He said he could offer us the dessert. We insisted and mentioned that we would call the police. He then asked what we wanted and if we wanted to not pay. We said we would pay but only 50% of the bill. He replied that he couldn’t do that and would call the police, so we told him to go ahead.
He disappeared and then magically returned, saying that he would also offer us the wine.
So, the moral of the story is that they gave us a discount, but the issue is not the discount; the real problem is the LACK OF CARE with which this restaurant handles such serious matters. Allergies are SERIOUS—a customer could DIE in the establishment. A customer should be able to trust the professionals working at the restaurant. Unfortunately, this place has shown itself to be completely inattentive to allergies and, on top of that, very rude.
We definitely do not recommend this restaurant to anyone with allergies or intolerances of any kind.

Read moreVisited Le Serac a couple times on separate trips. We visit Chamonix for climbing quite regularly Last time will probably be our last time to dine there. We walked in to make a booking for that evening. With very few names in the book for that evening we were greeted with “ooooh we’re a bit busy” tonight but he “found” a space for us. When we arrived for our booking at 8pm we were shown to a table perched between 3 or 4 families. We asked if they had another table as I didn’t want to have a beautiful meal ruined by mostly crying children and noise. Strangely enough, there were several empty tables at the back. But it wasn’t well received that we asked to be reseated. We were seated and I had a lovely meal. My husband didn’t enjoy his so much. £130 later (152€) it felt a bit too much. It’s pricey. For me it was a beautiful meal ruined by the moodiness of the person who took our original booking and (the same person) who seated us. Why be so difficult? To the staff - you rely on tourism and British tourists help to pay your wages. Please don’t be so hostile. Yours isn’t the only restaurant in Chamonix and as regular visitors I felt it was lovely to find a nice restaurant with great food. But we won’t be coming back on our next trip in...
Read moreWe ate a really good cèpes fondue. Although, when I asked to replace the cured meat with more potatoes I was imposed not very cordially a salad. The potatoes would have come with an extra charge. The amount of food was largely enough, we even left a potato, and of course the waitress let a sarcastic joke slip about the fact that in the end I didn't need more potatoes. The problem wasn't the amount of food, but the fact that obviously for the price we pay(32/34€ each), a salad doesn't match the cured meat value. The experience should be equal for everyone. And that when the client tries to politely point it out or asks for a variation, it shouldn't be met with a loud and dismissive answer and have to defend themselves. I think the whole process should be reviewed, from the food proposed (there are multiple veg options on the menu, so it wouldn't cost extra to put some aside) to the behavior. This situation made the whole dinner a bit uncomfortable, hopefully it was an...
