Edit: I’m back and I’d just like to say: Easily the Best Restaurant in the World.
I eat a lot of burgers. I’d say 40% of all my dinners are burgers. If I go to a restaurant and there’s a burger on the menu, I’ll order it. At this point in my life (35 years of age) it’s incredibly rare, dare I say completely improbable, that you have that unique out of body burger experience. Where every bite is better than the last, it’s a symphony of flavour and texture that has you audibly moaning while you eat it.
Well, Poco Loco delivered that and more today. I ordered their special (the Smashed) burger which was mostly a pretty standard burger, but it sent me on that burgasmic journey, completely by surprise. I had let my guard down after ten years of ordinary burgers, and when I took that first bite I was transported to a different state of burger being. It was a sensory awakening, burger Nirvana.
I’m shattered that I went there the day before I leave Chamonix. I’ll be back tomorrow morning when they open to order their classic and see how it compares.
5 out of 5 for the beer, service and atmosphere, and the burger has transcended a star rating and exists in a higher state of culinary cosmic perfection.
While all my friends and family will be returning to Chamonix year after year for the skiing, mountains and views, deep down I’ll secretly be returning for another burger.
Thanks for restoring my faith...
Read moreI’m updating my Google reviews from a while back—this one’s from March 2016! I originally posted it on TripAdvisor. It’s great to see that Poco Loco is still going strong and survived the Covid years.
The first time I came here, I was solo. The place had a cozy vibe, friendly staff, and amazing food at great value—right in the heart of Chamonix.
After that, I brought friends back a few more times during my stay. Who would’ve thought anyone could make something out of this long, narrow space? But somehow, they’ve turned it into a cool, laid-back burger joint that just works.
You can see the burgers being made as you walk in—nice touch! You’ll need to order at the bar, and trust me, the burgers are massive and seriously filling. If you’re eating in, try the fries inside the burger for something fun and different. And, of course, you’ve got to pair it with a cold beer. The fresh, crusty rolls they use are next-level good!
There was a Kiwi guy working there back in the day who was trying to improve his French, but most people kept chatting to him in English. I wonder if he’s still there? If you meet him—or anyone else—give them a chance to practice their French!
Don’t miss checking out the vintage signage on the walls—it adds to the charm.
I can’t wait to get back to Chamonix and visit Poco Loco again. It’s still one of my...
Read moreDear owner - I understand your point to previous comments regarding the price and style of the burger but I feel obliged to comment as well.
The quality of the meat IMHO is similar to McD - don't get me wrong they have an average taste. I was just expecting something better for 4.4* review I saw here.
I ordered Poco Loco special large (12€), was looking for double 150g beef and got 6 pcs of very McD like meats - the picture speaks for itself. Bun was quite good, fries better average, tartar with Provence herbs (if I guessed right) were OK.
Again - I understand that for the price it is what it is, but I also need to let others know (who might be as confused as me) that I don't think this is a great place for great burgers - I should have known when I saw the price for 6€ for normal burger.
Some positives though - very nice atmosphere, original interier, maybe other food is better and I'm sure you would have much fun with your friends here over couple of beers.
