We really enjoyed our 2024 Valentine's Day evening & meal at Bistrot Valois, a lovely little bistrot tucked away yet close to the Jardin du Palais Royal and, so I'm told, the workplace of Emily In Paris; a Netflix TV series that's set in Paris.
The bistrot was tastefully decorated for Valentine's and offered a set menu which comprised...
Entree 22.50€ Puff pastry of scallops with Armorican sauce or Foie gras medallion with mango chutney 15.50€
Main courses Beef fillet with truffle flavor, gratin dauphinois 29.00€ or Sea bass fillet, snow peas and oyster mushrooms 27.50€
Dessert Gourmet plate 11.50€
The service was excellent and the ambience was very good too.
The sauce with the scallops was beautiful as was the truffle sauce that accompanied our beef, which was tender and cooked perfectly.
A lovely, relaxing evening. We would certainly eat here again. And a very good choice for our romantic Valentine's Day evening meal 😋. The staff were attentive yet not imposing, our meal was relaxed and not rushed.
The bistrot is a large glass conservatory that's heated and set around the much older central structure with a traditional bar & counter area, and with seating both outside in the conservatory and inside, with exposed stonework. The toilets are downstairs, with a mirror signed "Emily was here".

Read moreWe're from Germany and wanted to get lunch here. First of all, the location and atmosphere is really great and relaxed. One point which slightly strange is that the food, especially considering its quality, is not that expensive, while drinks are very pricey. The actual trouble, however, was the interactions with the staff. My French is alright, but not perfect. I asked for a table in French and the server seemed annoyed, pointed us to a table and switched to English. We waited for some time for menus and once again for placing our order. We then ordered with another server in English, who refused to speak English to us. We ordered steak medium-rare, to which we were told "ça n'existe pas en France!". At some point the server realized we were German, started speaking broken German to us and seemed like a completely different person. It was a very weird experience. Once we got our food, it was very good. They were exactly cooked as we ended up ordering them in French, although it would have been nice to actually get what we initially wanted. The quality of the ingredients was excellent, though. Overall it's very sad that the servers ruined what could have been a very nice lunch. In my opinion, if you have an English menu and some of your staff speak English if they deem a customer's level of French too bad, other staff should not refuse to speak...
Read moreThis afternoon, what was supposed to be a joyful celebration turned into a deeply humiliating experience, all because of the shocking behavior of this restaurant’s owner.
We were a group of friends celebrating a bachelor party. One of our friends, who had a bit too much to drink, started feeling unwell and rushed to the restroom. On his way, he accidentally left a tiny bit of vomit on the stairs (immediately next to the washroom). We immediately recognized the situation and offered to clean it up ourselves—a completely reasonable response, right?
But instead of handling it professionally, the owner exploded in a fit of rage, screaming at us with profanity like “f* off” and “get out”—without even giving us a chance to fix the issue. The level of aggression and disrespect was shocking. We weren’t causing a scene, we weren’t being irresponsible—we were just trying to make things right. But instead, we were treated like garbage.
This is not how any customer should be treated. Accidents happen, and a restaurant owner—especially one in the hospitality industry—should know how to handle situations with basic decency. Instead, we were met with outright hostility and verbal abuse. It was embarrassing, frustrating, and completely unnecessary.
If you’re looking for a place where customers are treated with even the slightest bit of respect, stay far...
