On March 11, 2025, upon our arrival in Paris, we purchased a weekly pass at the Versailles Château Rive Gauche station. Prior to this purchase, we sought clarification from officers at several metro stations, including Cambronne, Champ de Mars Eiffel Tower, and Versailles Château Rive Gauche, regarding whether a photo was required to be attached to the weekly pass. All officers assured us that it would be permissible to attach the photo later, provided we retained the official receipt and proof of our sole usage.
On March 13, 2025, while visiting the Musée du Louvre, we encountered control officers at the Palais Royal - Musée du Louvre station around 10:20 AM. When we presented our tickets to Matricule Agent 718633, she informed us that we would be fined for failing to attach our photo to the weekly pass. Despite our explanation of the prior assurances given by other officers, she dismissed our claims and interrupted us repeatedly. She confiscated our cards and demanded a €35 fine, asserting that we had only 24 hours to attach the photo, as indicated in the regulations on the back of the weekly pass. However, upon reviewing the instructions, I noted that they merely stated, “Cut out your ID photo in the frame format. Put the photo in its frame after removing the protective pad...” There was no mention of any 24-hour requirement, and as tourists, we relied on the information provided by the metro officers.
When I inquired about the source of the "24-hour rule," Agent 718633 refused to engage and insisted on immediate payment. We declined to pay until she could clarify the situation, as there was no documentation to support her claims; it was her word against ours. After further questioning about the time frame, she inconsistently revised her statement to claim we had 48 hours to attach the photo, which only added to our confusion. I requested to see the weekly pass and read the instructions, but she again refused and exclaimed, "Don’t touch me!" despite our polite demeanor.
Agent 718633 then threatened to call the police if we did not pay, claiming that their arrival would result in a fine of €180 per person. Her aggressive demeanor left us feeling threatened and unsafe, prompting us to suggest contacting the police ourselves for assistance. When we asked to speak with another officer for clarification, she denied our request and encroached on our personal space, pressing us against the wall.
After waiting over 25 minutes, we inquired about the police's arrival. Agent 718633 vaguely indicated it could take 2-4 hours, raising doubts about whether she had actually contacted them. As time elapsed, we asked again, and her response remained unchanged. Eventually, I decided to call the police myself (please see the attached image for reference). While I was on the phone, the loud noise from Agent 718633's walkie-talkie made it difficult for the police officer to hear me. I requested to move across the aisle for clarity, but she shouted at me to return to the wall, then moved closer to eavesdrop on my conversation with the police. Her actions were perplexing; she had previously instructed us not to touch her, yet continued to invade our space. Her intimidating and aggressive demeanor made us feel unsafe.
After discussing the matter with the police officer for approximately 30 minutes, another control officer intervened. He suggested that we pay the fine and request a refund afterward to resolve the issue. Faced with the situation and having already wasted an hour, we felt compelled to comply. My partner has also reached out to the Consulate General of France in Hong Kong and China for assistance, who noted receiving multiple calls from tourists regarding similar issues. They advised us to pay first and seek a...
Read moreTerrible experience in this train station. Beware when you visit this louvre pyramid. Every place is scam in paris, especially in Louvre Pyramid area. Scam, thief and robber. I want to share my experience visiting Louvre Pyramid. After we visit and want leave Lourve Pyramid. We take metro train. We go down the metro station staircase, and we want to find the machine selling ticket. But we cannot find the machine. We see the exit gate open, and a staff holding a small machine. We thought he selling metro ticket. Then we enter and approaching him telling him we want to buy metro ticket. He directly said we enter the area without ticket, and 4 people wearing RATP metro uniform come and stop us. And 1 of the female caught my children (9 year old kid) . Force us to pay fine 60 euro x 5 person = 300 euro. We have 5 person (2 children, 2 female, 1 male) .
We know this is a scam trap to us tourist. We said we call the police, and 1 of the staff take out a badge saying that he is a police. But we guessing he is metro staff want to cheat us. Because we have 2 children, and he threatened to catch our children telling us want to put our family in jail. We think just dont make so much mess because we are tourist in paris, and if police came, police might just help their own people. So we just pay the 300 euro to them. This is a BIG SCAM. I management to take a photo on the incident at the time we pay him the fine. My friend from Singapore also got same type of metro scam in this louvre paramid metro station. Please stay...
Read moreMetro stop: you don’t need a ticket to exit the station but beware of blue uniformed staff at this stop ready to corner tourists who lose their metro tickets and try to make you pay 50 euros for a lost ticket. They are curt and ready to swipe your credit card for the 50 euro “fine” for misplacing your ticket even though you don’t need it to exit. This is a scam. They also tried to ask for ID but don’t fall for it bc that’s not legal as they are not police and they won’t let you have it back unless you pay money. Whoever is employing these people need to make sure they are employing ethical workers who just seem to want to take advantage of foreigners trying to have a pleasant visit to Paris. So they check if you have a ticket when coming out of the station and then when you leave from the Louvre they try to check your ticket again after you just swiped into the station. Whoever is managing these folks needs to be reprimanded. You are taking advantage of tourists who are just trying to take the metro and these metro employees (and their less than user friendly metro ticketing system)...
