God I wish I'd read the reviews before coming here. Where to even start?
Paris - the sheer amount of beautiful bistrots with excellent food. Safe to say, this was not one of those bistrots.
Trouble started when we sat down - the waiter was the most god awful annoying man I've ever had the misfortune to come across. We sat in the front, outside. The waiter was walking about singing loudly to himself about everything - to the point you couldn't focus on conversation. I clearly heard the irate table behind me go "does he plan on shutting up any time soon?" (Spoiler alert: he did not).
So, I'm with my mom. I order onion soup and a glass of white wine. My mom orders a cheese omelette and chips seperately (6 euros!!! hahaaa but I digress). Clearly stated order to waiter, he only went and SANG IT BACK TO US. (Note, you may picture this to be charming - it just wasn't.)
When he brought the food back - my mom took a quick bite of her omelette - it had ham in it. She hasn't been able to eat meat for years - it makes her really ill. Called the waiter over, pointed out ham. Apparently this was our fault. (?!?!) He went to get it changed to a new one, brought the chips with him (they would have gone cold during our wait) returned with new (teeny tiny) omelette and half a tiny bowl of fresh chips (this 6 euros is getting more painful at this point).
I tried some of my moms food and Christ it was the blandest thing I've ever ate. How can you mess up an omelette? It's literally just eggs. You could actually train a monkey to do it. It's not rocket science.
ANYWAY. She ate most of it, we're hungry, fine. Upon plates clearing up a bit (mine was meh. not good, not bad, just meh.) we realised that all of them had several chips and cracks in them - it went past being unhygienic to plain old super nasty (see attached photo). You can't get germs out of these chips - they're highly conductive to food poisoning (SPOILER ALERT: WHICH WE ONLY WENT AND GOT.)
Called waiter over - were polite, listen - food awful, but even worse is the condition you're serving it in. You can't serve customers with disease ridden plates - it's gross.
HE ONLY WENT AND SANG SOME MORE AT US. CHRIST ON A BIKE MAN, STOP IT. His singing ranged basically from how this wasn't his fault, to PAY HIM THE MONEYYY (I'll admit, this tune was a bit catchy) and finally to CALL THE POLICE (this one could have made a banging club track.)
Less funny - he put his hands on my mother. My mom has suffered through 2 lots of cancer and brutal chemo - anyone who has loved someone who has gone through this knows how weak it makes them. She's clearly frail and he grabbed at her violently. At this point, I was clear - yes, call the police. How dare he have done this? You can't raise concerns as a customer without being assaulted and being threatened with the police?
I've done waitressing before - and I know how brutal it can be to have bad customers. I will never be one of those customers. But at the same time, when I was waitressing, I never had that entitlement that made every diners experience about me. This waiter was so deeply entitled, so deeply rude and offensive - he was a complete contrast to all the other wonderful servers we had in Paris.
We paid for my wine, and the food served on the lesser chipped, but still chipped, plates. Singing waiter raged at us some more, his rage having momentarily prevented his ability to sing badly.
Later on - food poisoning!! Great.
Honestly, awful restaurant, awful staff. It's busy because it's a tourist spot. Go 5 minutes further out and there are some wonderful places. Save yourself the hassle and the inevitable, unenviable bowel movements.
EDIT: Just seen numerous reviews discuss awful singing waiter. Mate, you can't sing. Give it up. Go get some...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy friend and I visited this restaurant yesterday and it had the worst customer service either of us have ever experienced. On arrival, we were greeted by a nice lady called Niveen who let us look at the menu outside the restaurant for a while. We were then suddenly approached by a waiter who asked us to come inside the restaurant and seated us at a table. This waiter came back within a few minutes to take our order, but we hadnāt decided what we wanted yet so asked for some more time. Before the waiter went away, he asked if weād like any drinks and we said no. The waiter then came back and took our order (we only ordered a spaghetti bolognaise and a nutella crepe). Again, he asked if weād like any drinks, after which we said no, he asked if weād like water or any desserts but we declined again. Next, he asked if iād like the nutella crepe with bananas, and i said no. He kept trying to get us to spend more money, and since we kept saying no, we could see he was getting frustrated. The crepe came and it was ok, nothing special. The spaghetti bolognese which my friend had was tasteless. When the bill came, we noticed that we had been overcharged. We politely asked what the reason for this was, and the waiter aggressively pointed at the tiny print at the bottom of the menu stating that food ordered after 8pm has an extra charge. He then said that āif we are poor, we should not be going to restaurantsā and proceeded to sarcastically say that heāll pay the extra charge for us. We did not have a problem with paying the small extra fee, but it would have been helpful to be told about it before we had ordered our food. The comments made by this waiter about us not being able to afford our food was completely out of line, and the way in which he was speaking to us was very condensing. My friend and I then requested to pay together by card, and he said we cannot pay together. We asked for the manager, but he was almost just as bad as the waiter with his attitude. When we asked the waiter for his name, he became even more hostile and grabbed our bill off the table, running to his manager and shouting that heās going to call the police. We asked for our bill back, and he eventually put it back on the table. Niveen came up to us to take our payment and apologised for her colleaguesā awful behaviour towards us. She de-escalated the situation far better than the manager. Once we had payed, the waiter was across the restaurant pointing his finger at my friend and I to his colleagues before we immediately got up and left. We were absolutely disgusted by the horrific service we had received, particularly from the waiter (supposedly named Mustafa). Avoid this restaurant at all costs, all they care about is how much money youāre...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI went with my boyfriend to Paris for the weekend. For our last night we wanted to eat with a view on the Eiffel Tower.
At first the waiters were very friendly. We ordered a bottle of red wine and both a spaghetti bolognese. The first mistake was made very early: we got a bottle of rose wine and 1 plate spaghetti bolognese for both of us. We taught: "okay nevermind, it is possible to make a mistake". We ordered another plate of spaghetti. Besides that, the spaghetti looked like it was made by a 5-year-old. It was spaghetti, with an easy bolognese sauce and we didn't even get any cheese.
As it got later, we noticed that the staff was getting more and more rude to the other customers. They enforced people to pay a tip and looked very angry and annoyed when they picked up orders. We didn't feel comfortable anymore, but we stayed for dessert, because we had half a bottle of wine left.
We ordered a cheeseplate with 3 kinds of cheese. By change a remembered that the cheese plate costed ā¬12.45. We got the cheese plate and it was smashed on the table by our personal waiter. I think he was annoyed that there were so many customers left. We were not only surprised about the behavior of the waiter, but also about the cheese plate itself: we got 2 mini cheeses and 1 slice of Emmentaler cheese (for ā¬12.45!)
Finally we wanted to pay for our dinner and an other waiter came with the ATM. They asked us if we wanted to give a tip. We didn't want to, because of the mistakes, the overpriced food and the behaviour of the waiters. When we refused to pay the tip, the waiters started gossiping about us (we understand a little bit French so we understood the conversation).
They took my card and put it in the ATM. It took some time to process the payment, so I wanted to pull my card back and try it again. The waiter became very agressive when I made this move and later this moment we understood why: They tried to charge us 89 euros instead of the 69 euros we actually had to pay!! They were scamming us in front of us!! They acted as if their noses were bleeding and tried it again. This time, the waiter got my card out of my hand and ran into the restaurant. I was shocked and out of reflex I ran after him (maybe he saw my pin combination and wanted to cash some money). He got very angry with me and I almost yelled that I only wanted to pay the 69 euros we had to pay. We eventually paid 69 euros, stood up and got away.
Later we saw at the receipt that they sneaky charged us ā¬13.10 for the cheese plate. I didn't remember the original prices of the wine and spaghetti, but I guess that they charged us a higher price for those as well.
Don't ever go...
