Zero stars if I could. I know we spoke English and Parisians don’t love Asian tourists in general but that was singlehandedly the most uncomfortable and unnecessary dining experience of my life.
When we arrived at Chez we asked for a table outside, and a server told us to wait outside and sit when a table was cleared; we waited for 30 minutes with no complaint because we were hungry and fine with it (it was 96 degrees today and the inside was boiling hot).
When the table cleared, a different server very quickly sat down a French speaking party that arrived after us. My dad tried to explain that we were waiting for the table and the server rudely waved us off...our original server had to tell the manager to let the other party know they had to leave the table because we were first. The other party was very understanding of the mix-up and agreeably vacated the table.
We shrugged it off as miscommunication when the rude waiter returned, asking why the other party left the table. When the party said they weren’t next in the queue he told them to sit back down, making it a point to roll his eyes and glare at us, muttering under his breath. At this point BOTH parties were hesitant to claim the table because none of us wanted to be rude to each other. We were all just tryna eat. One of the guys in the other party told us in English he had no idea what was going on and everyone was just standing around outside looking at the table not moving at all.
We ended up leaving bc the way that guy looked at us told us that we weren’t going get good service and I’ve been around long enough to know that if the wait staff feels messed w, they mess w the food. It was a kid w curly hair and glasses.
Go across the street to Gemini, service was awesome and friendly and the mozz and the burrata were the most incredible I’ve had,...
Read moreI recently dined at Chez Gladines Halles for the third time with two friends, and unfortunately, it was a disappointing experience. We ordered a salade, Pipérade, and an omelette. The Pipérade came cold in a casserole dish, and despite sending it back, it was returned only slightly warmed. My friend's omelette was burnt, greyish in color, and lacked salt. The only saving grace was the salade, which was okay.
The service was also lacking, with long wait times and the restaurant appearing to be short-staffed. A small accident occurred where a waiter dropped a glass with tomato juice on my friend's white coat, and although they offered toilet paper and vinegar to clean it, it was still an inconvenience.
The real disappointment came when we spoke to the cashier about our experience. The manager came over and lectured us, insisting we should have sent back the food earlier and offering a 20% discount as compensation. It was not our intention to get anything for free, but the manager's entitled attitude was unacceptable.
While I understand that mistakes can happen in a busy restaurant, it was disappointing to see the manager's behavior. It seems like some people lose sight of good customer service when they feel they have power. The food and service at Chez Gladines Halles did not live up to my previous experiences, and I hope they can address the issues with their food quality and customer service...
Read moreWe left this restaurant feeling not only disappointed but also uncomfortable. It’s hard to tell whether we were being racially profiled or simply ignored because we didn’t speak French, but our experience was noticeably different from the tables around us.
Despite having a reservation and being seated promptly, service quickly went downhill. Tables seated after us received water and refills long before we did. It took nearly 40 minutes just to get our first glasses, and even then, our repeated requests for refills were ignored while others received them automatically.
As for the food, don’t let the photos fool you. While French cuisine is often served warm, ours arrived cold in the center. The cod was not only cold but bitter and fishy. The duck steak was served blue without anyone asking how we’d like it cooked. It was extremely gamey and difficult to chew. The only saving grace was the chicken burger, which was actually quite good.
It’s really disappointing to see a restaurant treat guests so differently based on language or background. After doing extensive research and feeling reassured by positive reviews, this experience was a huge letdown and left a lasting negative impression.
All in all, maybe stay away if you’re a tourist that doesn’t speak French or don’t look the part. They will treat you with disrespect and you will feel the discomfort and...
