⭐ 1/5 Disappointed and deeply offended.
We went to Cốm, a restaurant we found through glowing Google reviews, and we were genuinely excited. We had made a reservation for 6 PM and arrived on time. At the door, there was already a Caucasian guest standing and waiting. The place wasn’t even busy — there was only one staff member working on the floor.
As we stood there, waiting politely, then the staff member called out from a distance in French. The Caucasian guest responded in French, and I greeted in English. Then she continued speaking French directly to me — I didn’t understand a word, so I tried to explain that we had a reservation for two in English. She didn’t seem to hear, so I stepped closer and showed her the reservation on my phone.
She glanced at us and asked, “Three people?” — clearly assuming we were with the Caucasian guest. I said no, and we immediately noticed a shift in her attitude. She looked annoyed, even irritated, and proceeded to serve the Caucasian guest first.
We didn’t complain. We were ready to wait our turn. But it was frustrating, because I had to explain multiple times — not to jump the line, but to clarify that we had a booking and were not with that guest. I even told her I didn’t understand French, yet she kept speaking it and barely acknowledged us. She finally brought us to a table, but with a face full of disdain and an air of superiority that was impossible to miss.
Once we were seated and had checked the menu, we politely raised our hand to indicate we were ready to order. Her response? A curt, dismissive “I know.” Then she simply walked away.
We waited. Five minutes passed. Nothing.
At that point, we’d had enough. We got up and decided to leave — not because of a long wait, but because we felt completely invisible. Disregarded. Disrespected.
As we were walking out, we saw her laughing and chatting cheerfully with another table — full of Caucasian guests. We told her, politely, that the place seemed a bit busy and we’d find another restaurant. She said, “OK,” without so much as a sorry or a second glance. No attempt to make things right. No decency.
We left feeling humiliated and frankly, angry.
There’s a certain level of professionalism you expect — especially in hospitality. She could’ve simply said, “Please wait a moment, I’ll be with you soon.” Instead, we got cold shoulders, sharp tones, and the sense that we weren’t worth her time.
And honestly? We couldn’t help but ask ourselves — was it because we’re Asian, and the other guests were Caucasian?
The most absurd part? An Asian restaurant — discriminating against Asians. Truly...

Read moreAlthough I had already eaten an hour earlier, I returned with my family because the food was just that good. I was simply planning to enjoy a beer while they dined. We were the first to arrive and were waiting in line, but without any explanation, other parties were let in before us.
When I asked about our place in line, the staff member responded with irritation, telling us not to worry. To make things worse, a group that cut in line laughed at us, claiming they had a reservation—even though it appeared they had just arrived after me.
If there is a separate line for reservations and walk-ins, it should be clearly explained. We wouldn’t have been upset if we had been informed beforehand.
Because of one rude staff member, my memory of the great food quickly turned into a very negative experience. I won’t be returning, but I do hope future guests are given proper explanations...
