Hippopotamus — Restaurant in Paris

This is the only negative review we’ve had to give of anywhere in Paris (thank goodness). The cocktails were good (I had the St Germaine Spritz and hubs had a glass of Champagne (but I wish we would have stopped then - the review would be a 5/5) We then had the wings. I guess it depends on where you’re from. In Canada, our wings are meaty without being fat and an equal distribution of flats and drumettes. These were just drumettes, and they were all super fatty. Just not enjoyable. We then had a bottle of St-Emilion red wine which was brought completely warm. They fixed it by bringing us a bucket of ice which certainly helped and brought it up to a drinkable temperature. There was then a very long pause before we received our main dishes. By a different server. My husband ordered a ribeye and it was definitely not that. It may not help that we’re from Alberta which has some of the greatest steak in the world, but it was not the least bit tender and had zero flavor. He also ordered it with a Caesar salad and it was brought with French fries. The gal then brought a regular green salad. I ordered it (both times) in French. The second gal said that it just wasn’t indicated on the original order at all. But I’m not sure what happened when we asked her for a Caesar and she brought regular green salad. Yes, I speak English first, but I very clearly communicate with Parisians regularly, this was the first issue in a week. My burger was okay except that the (delicious) onions were put directly onto the bun which made the bun fall apart within the first bite and then everything fell apart before I could fully get into it. We certainly won’t be back. We did however meet an awesome local who frequents the place, and he said he and his mom go there regularly, always order the same things (I didn’t ask what) and it’s very good. So I’m sure some of their food...

Came in about 8pm with my girlfriend for a meal. When greeted at the door we asked if we could sit at a different table that they recommended as my girlfriends parents were at the bar next to the table. The waitress seemed quite annoyed that we asked to do this and for the rest of the night the service was extremely poor.

We both ordered that sirloin steak and a glass of wine to go with the meal. Some how they were able to cook the steak and bring it about, which of course took a long time, before someone walked behind the bar to get our drinks. The red wine was stored in the fridge which was very odd. Me and my girlfriend were certain that the waiter who bought our food was either very drunk or hated his job as he stumbled over to the table with our food. Had no idea what he was carrying or if he was at the right table.

The steak unforchantly matched the service, poor. There was more fat in the steak then there was meat meaning I payed €16 for some fries. It was only until the, who I can only presume is the manager as he wore a different uniform to everyone else, arrived and looked after our table that service improved but still not the other staff. We both ordered a crème brulé for dessert which was surprisingly nice.

All in all it was a terrible meal with terrible service. It seemed that they were getting to the end of service so they didn't care about what they did, no one being at the bar for long periods of time, all the staff walking outside and chatting at one time and staff avoiding us. This left a terrible mark at the end of an amazing Paris holiday. Would...

When I went to this hippopotamus is the second hippopotamus I’ve been to in the first hippopotamus I’ve went to the service was good. However the food was stale unfresh. I had a steak and fries with peppercorn sauce. Steak tasted stale like it wasn’t fresh. It looked like it was made two hours ago and just set up the heat lamp and at this hippopotamus that I just went to today me and my wife have ordered. We waited for about 20 minutes for our food Then our food arrived. My wife ordered a simple cheeseburger with bacon however she said that her cheeseburger didn’t taste good wasn’t satisfying and I’ve ordered a special on the menu. I don’t exactly remember what it was called, but it was like a caramelised onion burger with cheese and a hash brown and the burger was absolutely plain had no flavour in it Again, yes the meat was cooked perfectly and it was fresh. However, it was tasteless. There was no flavour in it. It was basically the worst burger I’ve ever had and I’ve had pretty many burgers so far and otherwise the service was at the beginning nice and friendly. However, at the end, it was very slow, and it took us a long time to get our food, even though, when we ordered the restaurant wasn’toverly filled and there were people that ordered after us and they received their order before we did so it was not very pleasant. I would like to advise people that look for a good burgers not go there. Just go to 5 guys Burger King or anything like that at least you know that it’s it will be...
