JACQUES — Restaurant in Paris

I arrived at Jacques late on a Sunday night, about 11:15pm. They were open (as the website indicated) but the kitchen had closed at 10pm that night. The owner came by my table, learned that'd I'd been disappointed not to be able to order anything, and immediately volunteered to look through his kitchen to find something for me to take out. He was able to put together a nice little meal from items that could be warmed in the microwave--and even added a whole baguette to my package for good measure. Beyond that, he refused to charge me anything at all for this impromptu takeout meal. That was certainly service above and beyond the call of duty--and a kind and generous gesture on his part. It was a delicious little package he put together for me. I left Paris the following day and wasn't able to return for a paid meal--but I can highly recommend this attractive little place for the warmth, generosity and attentiveness...

If I could give 1/2 a star I would. I came here with two of my friends around noon for coffee and I was a tad late. So my friends arrived first got served but once I arrived not only did they not check on me to get my order but did not come out for the rest of the entire time we were there. And I would understand if they were busy but we were the ONLY customers even at one point the waiter fixed the lamps and continued to ignore us. My friends went inside to pay and we left. Dommage because the food looked great and the drinks. Do not recommend.

My Response: No one came out to serve me. My friends got the water with their coffee, we wanted to try your drinks specifically the espresso martinis and order lunch. Very disappointed by the quality of their "Maxi Mojito".

For 12 euros a piece (10 euros at HH) you'd think you'd be given a decent mojito. No we were not -- instead we were given two very well watered down cocktails that consisted of an unwell mix of ingredients. I assume they didn't check the seltzer that was used beforehand. There were no sparkles and it was as if the limes hadn't been crushed enough to blend with the harmony of the brown sugar and mint. Also, we didn't care much for the golden, metallic straws. Very unhygienic and we weren't the only guests who had taken them out of our drinks..

Sad to say we won't be coming back to this place which really has so much potential.

Perhaps some bar training for the staff...
