La Basilicata — Restaurant in Paris

The food is adequate; linguine was overcooked, the sauce watery. Grilled vegetable salad was good, with a surprisingly large variety even in (nearly) winter. Spritz was expensive and watered down.

But the service was atrocious and strange. The waiter switched repeatedly from language to language, responded awkwardly to thanks and requests, and hovered at times to the point of making me feel uncomfortable. Truly bizarre and not a good feeling. The restaurant has no vibe.

There are plenty of better options...

What a great meal! I had the bruschetta and my companion had the penne ala siciliana. Both of our meals were delicious but the highlight was our waiter, Sanju. Professional and helpful, he explained the specials in perfect English (our French is not too good.) he realized at once that we were struggling and switched to English. He was attentive but not obtrusive and made us feel that we’re very welcome!...

J’ai découvert cet endroit un peu par hasard, et depuis, j’y retourne dès que ça me manque. Parce qu’il y a ce plat. Cette scaloppina au gorgonzola et à la truffe, qui me revient parfois en tête comme un vieux souvenir dont j’aurais encore faim. Viande ultra fondante, sauce puissante et douce à la fois, le genre d’assiette qu’on ne remplace pas. L’entrée de légumes grillés aussi est au top : simple, juste, savoureuse. Et puis l’accueil... le patron vient discuter, glisse quelques mots en italien, l’ambiance est détendue, chaleureuse, sans chichi. On s’y sent bien, comme chez soi. Ce n’est pas un resto où je vais tout le temps. C’est un resto où je vais quand j’ai besoin de retrouver une vraie bonne table, un vrai plaisir. Et franchement, ça...
