We're a fan of the iconic artwork but having never visited the wine bar there was a degree of concern that the marketing may surpass the reality. We were warmly greeted and shown to an excellent table. There is a perfect balance between cozy room buzz yet enough space to navigate to your table without apologies needed for neighbours or hearing every conversation other than your own. The lighting is soft yellow creating a warm intimate atmosphere yet still enough to read the menu without pulling out the iPhone. The staff were always available with a genuine smile, excellent product knowledge and happy to engage in your language of choice.
The champagne and wine were as expected - excellent however the food surpassed our expectation. Rarely do the three of us find a place, particularly in Paris, where the foodie on my right and philistine on my left agree the menu is abundant with choice and all three courses memorable in the best possible way. The fare is perhaps more international than pure French so oui you could be anywhere in the world - so long as it is world class.
We eat out a lot and most meals are quickly forgotten and not worthy of a review. However I am very happy to recommend Willi's for your Paris...
Read moreI have been coming to Willi's since 2010. This wine bar was important to the growth of the wine bar scene internationally. So much so, their poster adorns the wall of our wine bar. THEY HAVE LOST THEIR WAY and maybe their sanity. Post covid they have been a mess but I have given them grace. Tonight, after a long walk to join them, the bartender refused to sell us over 5 producers. Almost 25% of the wines. I told him our story and he was unmoved. Safe guarding wine is more important than sharing wine. I highly recommend going someplace else. They have lost the sense of what wine is about; community, inclusion & sharing. I have heard this story from others and am shocked it happened to us. When we return home we'll be stripping the poster from the wall of our wine bar. Willi's is precisely why younger, trendy wine bars are thriving. Willi's needs to beg you to have dinner in their sparsely attended bar to be allowed to order a bottle....
Read moreWe started the evening greeted with rude remarks from the owner who was very unwelcoming and showed clear irritation that a another customer with a reservation came through the door. Perhaps he was trying to be deal with his overwhelm, but patrons at the crowded bar were laughing uncomfortably and then someone said something like, “I guess you know you’re successful when you don’t need business and that you can talk to customers any way you want to.” For a Saturday evening dinner, the restaurant was very understaffed which resulted in a 2.5 hour meal while listening to a another customer’s dog barking in the dining area throughout the evening. I hope this was just an off night for the establishment, but none-the-less, the dining experience was atrocious and a definite low point during our...
