We stopped for early dinner at Au Petit Bois Vert in Strasbourg, and it was exactly the kind of meal you hope to have in Petite France. The terrace sits right by the canal, under a massive old tree strung with colorful lights, and the cobblestones give it all a rustic charm. Sitting there with the family, shaded from the sun and watching the boats glide past, felt like a little postcard moment. We decided to share several flammekueche, each served on big wooden boards. The classic with lardons, onions, and mushrooms had the perfect crisp base and smoky flavor. Another was lighter, topped with zucchini slices and herbs, while the richest one came with soft slices of chèvre and a drizzle of honey – a delicious balance of creamy, tangy, and sweet. Alongside, we ordered a large garden salad, full of fresh vegetables, which was a great match to the warm and hearty flammekueche. One of the highlights was also the smoked salmon salad, beautifully presented with salmon layered over crisp greens, cucumber, tomatoes, and a spoonful of avocado cream topped with crispy onions. Even though the terrace was busy, the service was quick and friendly, and we never felt rushed. The prices were very reasonable considering the setting and generous portions. Au Petit Bois Vert gave us a true taste of Alsace in the best possible surroundings.

I grew up in Alsace, and studied in Strasbourg... What a delight to return to younger time memories... After wandering around the Petite France, this restaurant offers tables with a view along the Ill river. A glass for local Fischer beer to wet the appetite. I started with a terrine de foie gras, which was generously served with plenty of toasted bread. That could have been enough. But... I could not resist the waedele with spaetzele: it doesn't get anymore traditional, and the genuine tastes transported me back to the flavours of my youth. It was copiously served, enough for two, as the person at the next table said having the same serving. This will definitely refill anyone after an urban hike around the vast pedestrian zone of Strasbourg, and leave an imprint of Alsace cuisine.

We arrived at lunchtime without a table reservation and we weren't sure if they could give us a table, but luckily a table for two people just became available. The staff was very friendly and cheerful. The red wine we ordered had a very pleasant velvety taste and was served at the right temperature. We ordered traditional dishes, we wanted to try the cuisine here and I have to say that it was perfect both in taste and texture, thank you very much. Gourmand coffee is also perfect. I recommend it to everyone. Try it. I would gladly recommend this place to anyone, it's worth a visit, you don't find such staff and such cuisine everywhere. Once again, very nicely.

Nice view… shame about the hospitality.

Came here for a meal with friends. The food? Decent. Nothing memorable, but edible. The view? Lovely — probably the best part of the whole experience.

But the service? Now that’s where things really took a turn. The staff seemed to be operating on a very strict timer — finish chewing and you’re already being sized up for departure.

After our meal, we were enjoying a quiet moment with our drinks (as normal humans do), when the server swooped in with a cheerful “Would you like coffee or dessert?” We said we were fine for now — key word: for now. Her response? “Then maybe the check?”

Ah, yes. Nothing says “thanks for coming” like being gently shoved out the door for the crime of enjoying a beer 10 minutes too long without ordering more. Heaven forbid you linger to digest.

Overall, this place gives off strong “eat, pay, get out” vibes. If you’re looking for a relaxing meal where you’re not treated like an inconvenience, maybe try elsewhere. But if you’re into scenic views paired with passive-aggressive hospitality, you’ve...
