I had a special experience here (meaning this in the best way possible!!) Just like East Canteen tells you, it's truly a safespace for people from all walks of life. I came here multiple times in 2024 with friends and was here alone on thursday.
I'll share my most recent experience. First and foremost, the atmosphere is charming! I love the way the tables are set and the overal look of the restaurant (which has two floors). I was sat at one of the tables and ordered the special new year dish, alongside a drink. I sadly had to deal with a weird encounter with one of the clients there, who took off my corset..😭 While I know that person wasn't perfectly mentally stable, it still disturbed the hell out of me. I asked the staff if I could change tables (to get as far as possible from the lady) and they not only accepted but went to confront her and had her leave the establishment. They also kindly offered to call the police on my behalf but I refused. After switching tables, one of the waiters came to check up on me and asked if I was alright, followed by the manager I believe, both were incredibly kind and apologetic despite the fact this wasn't their fault.
I received my food pretty quickly and it really hit the spot! The noodles were flavorful and the veggies well cooked, and don't get me started on the duck..aah so good, I'm so sad it's part of a limited menu. The drink was the banana mocktail, amazing too! Not too sweet, you could feel both the banana and rose, not too sweet either.
Finally, the lady whom I believe was the manager, came when I was about to go up and pay and told me they gave me the drink for free. I really didn't expect it but I truly appreciate the gesture, and once again pretty much the whole staff apologized for what happened.
TLDR ; amazing well-priced food/drinks, wonderful staff, great athmosphere, will be coming more...
Read moreEasy Canteen opened a new spot in Strasbourg, which is bigger than the original one. After trying numerous meals at this place I can most certainly say that is good for these dishes only: -korean fried chicken, ALL DAK + rice -legume Tempura -gyoza ALL.
Salads and other dishes lack obvious elevation in terms of taste and complexities (for the price). Whenever I tried something new, it wasn't up to the standard of the mentioned 3 dishes.
Please order there japanese mayo and other sauces on the SIDE. They put a lot of sauces everywhere, you end up tasting only the japanese mayo. This happened with the takoyaki fried balls.
The location itslef is great, luminous, full of windows. Staff is amazing 👏! It can get really loud inside but manageable, loud gives life to the place and the neighborhood!
Will surely return back for the daks, tempuras...
Read moreIt was a great place just at the end of the block from our hotel. We had several assorted items and enjoyed every bite.
The buns were soft, juicy and the meat was extremely tender. The Dak Jimang was a really great chicken dish reminiscent of some chicken I had in Korea, though it was boneless medallions rather than what I'm used to. The chili sauce is not over the top spicy, but gets its point across.
The drinks were the best part of the meal. We had an alcohol free ginger beer with citrus and a cocktail akin to a Gin Mule which were fantastic. We also had happy endings, which are little fruity shots you can hammer down in between drinks. They come in a cute little cup and make a great finisher if you're too full for dessert.
Public bathrooms are downstairs, there are facilities for all...
