Little World — Restaurant in Strasbourg

Those who gave high ratings for food quality of this place must’ve never had authentic Vietnamese before. The restaurant is indeed helmed by Vietnamese, two whom I assume are the owner and wife, but they and the staff seem to be oblivious to what good Vietnamese food is, or potentially simply got into it for the business aspect of it and not chefs themselves.

We both had the Crepe Viet, which the skin, the wrapper is extremely though (should be thin) and rough (should be smooth), the contents, pork and mushrooms, were very little.

We mainly came for the Pho, there was only one on the menu and all proper Pho places should have what’s called “Pho Dac Biet”, which translates as Pho Special, with a bunch of different ingredients including tripe and beef balls, which they don’t. The pho itself was not served with sweet sauce or chilli sauce, when we asked for them, the French server seemed oblivious why we want it. Also bean sprouts, mint leaves, etc, they seemed like we were crazy asking for them when we saw pictures of the restaurant having them available. Flavour was NOT a redemption, felt like MSG “broth”, likely they don’t get enough volume for Pho.

Place served Thai food, which suggests they’re a restaurant simply serving “pretend” Vietnamese food for unsuspecting western flavours.

GO EAT THERE NOW. Tom kha soup thai, viet bo noodles, spring rolls. Soup and the noodle bowls were great, very flavorful. The fried rolls in the viet bo were super tasty and the vinegar sauce also great. It was better than 99% of vietnamese Thai food ice ever had. Spring roll was tasty as well but the dipping sauce could use some more work, needs more peanut butter, lime, chili sauce. We came to this place because of the GREAT google reviews and good location. Unfortunately, we were very disappointed by the quality of the food and the too hot temperatures inside !! I ordered a vegetarian bo bun dish and the nems seemed to have been taken out of the freezer and the dish was accompanied by iceberg salad and cucumbers.
