Sébastien — Restaurant in Strasbourg

Sébastien is located in his father's (the original Gillmann) pâtisserie on the Quai des Bateliers, a now popular pedestrian area of Strasbourg. This beautiful place with its wooden and glass facade was known for decades for its delectable pâtisseries, kugelhopf, pies, etc. The place had special meaning for me as my parents used to get pastries, pies and desserts for special occasions when I was a kid 45 years ago. I think most of my birthday cakes until I turned 18 came from Gillmann, Obermeyer or Christian. These were the best back in the days and Sébastien now carries the torch, and can do so proudly. His baked goods are just as good as his father's, but he has also managed to turn his client base into a (much) younger crowd. While the inside of the shop is fairly small, there is now seating outside on the Quai with a view on the water and the beautiful buildings surrounding the shop. We had hot chocolate, a mocha, a small kugelhopf, an apple turnover and a slice of cheese pie - all delicious (the kugelhopf was my favorite). The quetsche pie also looked out of this world but I was too full. Prices are more reasonable than I seemed to remember, yet the quality...

Nice setting, great location, pastries and cakes looking awesome.

Unfortunately we were ignored by the waitress so we left after 15 minutes without getting anything. So did some other tables.

Terrace was not busy at all, the waitress came out a few times, even immediately attended to a customer that came after us. So she passed in front of us several times, seeing our empty table yet didn't bother to take our order.

So except for the shameful lack of service there isn't much more I can say about this place. My only suggestion to the owner is to train their staff to...

Definitely a place to stop for a few minutes and have some good pastries and a very good fresh juice. Personally, we come back to this shop every time we visit Strasbourg and we were never disappointed. Unfortunately, they only have a few tables outside, so the space is limited and always crowded. That doesn’t mean that people are not waiting until someone leaves so that they can get a table :) we did the same :) That says a lot about this place. Definitely recommend it and definitely we will come back every time...
