The staff are too stressed. *Updated: you must stand precisely at the doorway, exactly where instructed—where twenty others are already waiting. You must not move. Stand there, in their way, huddled together, congregated. You must be with them… with the people. Part of the herd. Waiting to order. Waiting for the sustenance of bagels, bagels, coffee—together as one. Embracing the wait. Just stand there. Unmoving. Unshakable.

You cannot step eight feet away. You cannot wait quietly outside the entrance—out of the way, yet still visible—sitting politely while your order takes seven minutes. No.

Do not sit down. You must remain standing, firmly, occupying the space. Do not make room. Do not suggest that others could receive their orders more efficiently.

I was in need of a good breakfast before I began exploring the wonders of Berlin and I visited here as it was very close to U-bahn at Friedrichstrasse. The choice was good, the place was really clean and fresh...and the staff were friendly and helpful (speaking slightly slower for me as my German isn't great). I ended up choosing an espresso and a couple of croissants to start with, the coffee was so flavoursome and the croissants oh so fresh. And then I had another croissant and a sandwich....the roast beef one was one of the best sandwiches I have ever eaten...excellent meat, hot creamy sauce and tasty cheese (highly recommend this one). I left full, happy and ready to explore the city...I will definitely be back here next...

Flamingo 🦩 was recommended to me as a good place for breakfast before my boat trip up the River Spree.

What a great choice it turned out to be.

It was getting busy at 9 a.m. when I arrived, but I easily found a table, and was served quickly by a friendly staff member. I had checked out the menu online and knew that I wanted their pancakes with fresh fruit and maple syrup, and a Chai Latte. I was extremely happy with my choice, as they were both delicious. The little home made biscuit with the latte was light and yummy.

Glancing around at other diners, the salads, omelettes, croissants etc. all looked inviting too, so I may try something else next time.
