In times when it is harder to get a currywurst than sushi, Konnopke's Imbiss welcomes you in their sausage retreat. Of course the curry-delicacy tastes great, who would doubt that? You not only consume it with pleasure, but also you feel healthy after. A culinary win-win situation. Also, the pigeons all around seem to be eating only that - and they are loving it! If you are finding it hard to believe pigeons, (which does not surprise me at all) there are also German-speaking-people there. They're Germans and they know what is best (beer, Mercedes-Benz).
Moreover, the staff is not unfriendly. And it is a great thing, because they work the whole day having S-Bahn trains above their heads as Konnopke's Imbiss is located under an elevated train track. I would be rude to others after 5 seconds!!
To wrap things up: of you're still reading it, just be aware that it took you longer to read this recommendation than to actually have one of those currywursts. Just have one, see for yourself if the...
Read moreGreat place to sit and enjoy the famous currywurst - meat or vegan - and to relax whilst doing so. It's a fast-food place, sure - but there's a nice covered area for sitting and the folks I encountered were all very friendly. The staff were excellent and very fast - if you're really hungry, you certainly won't wait long! The taste of the currywurst here is second to none. The only reason for not giving 5 stars? One very impolite server, who made fun of me in German. Hey yes, I was speaking English to my son. Do you really think that this means I can't understand your cheek about my order? Unlucky for you, I speak German pretty well. How was I to know that your pommes aren't vegetarian? I'm not a mind-reader....nevertheless, I highly recommend Konnopke's - just ignore the older lady who might be taking your order. All of the younger...
Read moreCurrywurst has a steeped history in Berlin. However, I prefer not to know it. I'm sure the idea of a sausage draped in bog standard curry sauce, with fries that endure the further ignominy of ketchup and Mayo is one that delights visitors to Berlin, as much as it bores those who reside here. Your intrepid reviewer has shown respect for the poor little piggy that has been "processed", and opted for the bratwurst and mustard. The sausage is worth the wait; perfectly brought to heat, snappy skin, revealing a seasoned and fluffy interior. The mustard is decent. The chips sadly come from a place that is as German as a ball park hot dog. Similarly sad is the lack of offer of sauerkraut, with "cabbage salad" another sad concession. It's curious, decent commercial sauerkraut is as ubiquitous here as...well,...
