Beware, although their matcha is as expensive as it gets, some of it is actually the cheapest one meant for cooking, not for drinking. Okay so hear me out. I bought one of their matchas for my partners birthday as she is an absolute addict, together with a set of utensils for matcha making (the tea). These things are sold right next to each other on the same central table in the store. The Shinto Matcha itself cost around 400-500€/kg, so around or even more than the price of "ceremonial grade" online. When my partner opened it it was grey-greenish, rather bitter-tasting and did not even come close to anything she had bought online. Actually it rather looked and tasted like the one from the asia store (50€/kg). When she called and asked if she could return it, they declined and told her it was never meant for drinking, as it says so on the back of the container (and indeed it says "culinary matcha"). Read moreI had never really drank tea before and the staff were amazing when that was mentioned! They were kind enough to hold an impromptu tea tasting, explained the different types of teas, how they should be brewed, what benefits each one had, recommended teas to try, and lots of other wonderful and helpful knowledge. The staff were so generous with their time and so welcoming. I learned so much and certainly came away appreciating tea and of course came away with some tea too! I highly recommend stopping at this tea shop if you are in Berlin just for the staff alone and if you are not a tea drinker (like I was), you will be treated so well! Thanks very much for a wonderful and...
