The Frankenstein Brauhaus in Dusseldorf is a large 4-story concrete building with dark blue awnings over a few front sidewalk tables. Their large name is in gold letters: Frankenheim Brauereiauslchank. This translates as tasting room for the Frankenheim brewery. It took a little digging to understand the history, but this place is no longer a brewery, but their tradition carries on in this nice restaurant pub. The Frankenheim brewery was founded in 1873 and became famous for it brown Altbier ale. The original brewery was called the Falcon, and this bird is still the logo for their brand. In 1991 the brewery relocated to Neuss-Holzheim, to allow for greater capacity, but that brewery itself later closed in 2009. In 2005 the Frankenheim brand was purchased by the Warsteiner Group, and today the Alt beer is brewed at the huge Warsteiner central brewery, according to the original Dusseldorf recipe of 1873. So here in their pub you can enjoy both the Frankheim Alt as well as Warsteiner beers. When you enter the building, their bar room is on the left, which has a narrow wooden bar and several high top tables. On the right is their dining room. The floor is yellow tiles, the walls have wood paneling, and the furniture has blue trim. It is decorated with paintings and soft incandescent lighting. The place has a more subdued atmosphere than other beer halls I've attended, but the staff is cheerful and prompt, and quick to bring the first pour of their Altbier. The kitchen features a nice hearty menu of German cuisine, feature weekly specials, and I really enjoyed my pork medallions dish. Outside to the left of the main entrance is passageway that leads back to their biergarten. It is a nice outdoor brick patio with many square tables. There are pieces of the old brewery such as a bottle filling station, and the top of a large copper brewing vessels. The biergarten has its own service bar used during peak events. Also there is a large blue and white awning which can be extended over the patio during rain. It is a nice place, and I enjoyed the food...

We went there after a convention on sunday evening. It was kinda late (around 2100) so there were a lot of free spots.

We basically ordered everything on the menu from the Haxe ober sausages, Leberkäs to the fish and Steak.

The food was good and fresh and came pretty quickly for that amount of different orders. The goulash and asparagus soup came quickly and tasted well.

The sauerkraut could've had a little more salt and the Fried Potatoes (Bratkartoffeln) could've used some onions and little more bacon. But the meat and beef was fresh and cooked well. The fish tasted well too.

The service was really nice to us, and we could also speak English with them.

The atmosphere is really beautiful and traditional. We liked it a lot.

I would definitely recommend this place if you want to eat and experience traditional...

Der Biergarten im hinteren Bereich ist wirklich nett - etwas zugig, aber nett. Als Vorspeise hatten wir eine Gulaschsuppe. Auf der Karte steht auf Englisch etwas von Senf-Mayo, und traditionelle Düsseldorfer Gulaschsuppe sollte mit Altbier und Senf gekocht werden. Was wir bekamen war eine ganz normale ungarische Gulaschsuppe mit reichlich Paprika drin, ganz so wie man sie auch aus einer Dose kriegen würde. Wir haben dann selbst Senf reingetan, und dann war sie tatsächlich recht lecker. Ich hatte einen Düsseldorfer Senfrostbraten. Der kam mit recht guten Bratkartoffeln, einer sehr guten Altbiersauce, einem auf den Punkt Medium-Rare gegarten, qualitativ okayen Steak mit einer guten, aber nicht herausragenden Auflage aus Senfcreme und Zwiebeln. Der riesige Beilagensalat war frisch und gut, das Dressing hätte aber auch aus einem Eimer stammen können. Ein gutes, solides Essen, das aber auf gar keinen Fall fast 28 EUR Gegenwert entspricht. Meine Freundin hatte einen großen Salat mit gebratenen Pfifferlingen. Groß war er tatsächlich, leider aber einfach nur der große Bruder des Beilagensalats mit dem exakt gleichen Dressing. Die Pfifferlinge waren kalt, und schmeckten als seien sie schon vor ein paar Stunden gebraten worden. Im lt. Karte vegetarischen Salat fanden wir ein paar Speckstücke - von denen wir gerne mehr gehabt hätten. Die Bedienung war eher kurz angebunden, professionell freundlich, und etwas gehetzt. Insgesamt waren wir etwas enttäuscht - von einem Brauhausausschank hatten wir uns reichhaltiges, solides Essen zu angemessenen Preisen versprochen. Während das Preisniveau sehr hoch war, konnten wir das Essen maximal als befriedigend kategorisieren.
