FOOD & DRINKS When you take a closer look at the menu you will recognize that they don't offer that much variety. It's either vegetarian or spicy miso chicken ramen with some additional toppings like an egg but the soup base seems to be one or the other. The drink menu is also pretty limited. I don't consider this as something bad though. As long as the base dishes are of great quality there is nothing to complain about. I went for the spicy red tantan men with an egg plus some spicy takoyaki on the side. All the high expectations led to dissapointment. To make their broth spicy I believe they use fermented spicy bean paste which gives the soup some bitterness I just dislike. The egg was too done for me. A perfect ramen egg should still have smooth yolk that melts on your tongue. The takoyaki only had a splash of spicy mayo on top and was very dense. I prefer the ones I had in Tokyo, Osaka or in Los Angeles. Fluffy and still gooey inside.
SERVICE The staff seems to be friendly and nice but there was one major issue. They served our ramen bowls to another table. Then a few minutes later moved the bowls from that table to ours. Although they humbly apologized for the mistake, this is not acceptable when you consider the situation we are in. As a customer I don't know if the other customer touched our bowls or not.
ATMOSPHERE The ramen restaurant is a newcomer from the Takumi brand. I think the restaurant looks very simple compared to some of the other restaurants from the Takumi branch. Maybe a white/red paint job would have looked better than the dark red/black. It would have fit their spicy red/white menu theme even better. That is just my opinion though.
RATING Despite some harsh critique I don't think the food was bad. I even believe that many customers will like it a lot. I just prefer the spicy ramen bowl from Takumi 2nd Tonkatsu or Takumi Chicken & Veggie. So objectively I give them four stars but for me personally it would have been 3 stars.
Update: After a second visit I have to lower the rating. We were the first to arrive and only got half the order. We witnessed them doing the mistake with our order and told them but they wouldn't believe us. I had to come in and remind them about the missing ramen they served to other customers... Although they apologised and gave us a snack on the house they messed up the order again... If they hadn't apologised the rating would only be 2 stars despite the food...

Read moreThis review may sound a little biased, but the experience at Takumi do confirm that it deserves 5 stars! Sure, there may be some waiting, which in my case, it was for around 20 minutes until I got the table, and it was a weekend night too so on any other day, it may not require such waiting too. However, once inside, the pleasant ambience of the restaurant, with all the ramen posters really do lift the mood up. The food there was really delicious, with the red veggie Tantanmen I ordered and asked the server to have the spice levels cranked up for a challenge, simply because why not. I grew up with stuff that's normal where I'm from, but many would consider it spicy. And while the challenge was worth it, the tongue MAY feel numb for a while! Still, worth the whole thing. I also ordered some kimchi on the side for some spice balancing, and a bottle of Ramune which was very reminiscent to the soda bottles I used to see at the Limca stalls when I was a kid, especially that one time when my dad decided to grab some with the Aaloo Chaat from the stall next to it. And yes, the service: it was top. The staff was very courteous throughout the visit, and while you have to go to the counter to pay instead of having a server approach your table for the payment after the meal,...
