Altstädter Stube Willig — Restaurant in Hamburg

Came here for my 1st meal in Hamburg, considering the relatively good reviews and near our hotel. Made a reservation for 2 and we were the 1st to arrive to the restaurant. I really love the vibes of the place as it was typical wooden German interior.

Sadly, the interior was extremely hot and there was not ventilation at all. Sitting inside for 5 mins will simply make you sweat like crazy and smell for the rest of the day. Owner ( old guy ) understand English and there was one lady inside whom rolled her eyes when I asked several questions in English which he struggled to understand. Wanted to request to sit outside as it was simply too stuffy and I was sort of pushed around I and I could feel the bad vibes overall. It seems like I cannot sit outside because it was table for 4 and I only had 2. Mumbled to another couple and they ended up leaving before we could sit. I don't understand this since the whole place was empty. Why give such vibes?

The steak and potatoes were actually good but a tad too salty. During payment, I had to go inside to ask for the bill and he mumbled something outside and the waitresses who's vibes seems off went in took a piece of paper with out orders on it. The overall vibes seems unfriendly and no warm coming despite the place being relatively empty. To set in context, while we were outside eating, multiple couples and and people went in and came out. I also overheard them saying too hot and stuffy inside before leaving, my guess to find another place to dine.

I feel there are much more better...

Tiny little restaurant with less than 25 covers inside, there is a terrace. Food cooking is home cooking style just like your parents would cook for you. This is not an elaborated place. This is all about simple flavors and textures. I love it, reminded me of my own cooking. After a long day walking this was perfect for a change, no superficial frill... The service was provided by a charming young lady that was speaking perfect English which was great for me. Friendly service, simple but so efficient. Simple, rustic restaurant in Hamburg with simple menu for very affordable prices. We were seated inside and the owner (we assumed) made space for our stroller.

I think the owner was cooking, serving and cleaning tables all on his own. Food waiting was fast and service was excellent. We ordered 2 dishes since our child normally does not eat well so we share our food. The owner automatically gave us an extra plate and cutlery. Something none of the other restaurants we have been to has done. After the meal, he gave a mini chocolate for our child too which we appreciated alot.
