Café Ponton — Restaurant in Hamburg

Absolutely the worst service I’ve ever experienced! The majority of the menu wasn’t available for order (on an ordinary weekday, breakfast menu). The staff was unfriendly and after the third time of asking for the check, still no reaction. I had to go to the kitchen to get the check myself. They forgot to bill us half the amount, for which the unfriendly staff came running after us (following us for two streets). They asked me to pay the missing amount which wasn’t a problem for me, but I pointed out that I didn’t legally have to pay anything, but would because of it being the right thing to do. At this point things started to escalate, the staff told me just to pay and mind my own business, took my money and threw my card with the receipt on the ground, said something in a foreign language, showed me the middle finger and left without any further words.

I am baffled by the disrespect shown by the staff! And I am deeply ashamed for the owner for letting these...

One star for the staff who were friendly and did try to fix the other issues without complaint. However for me there is almost no other reason to recommend this place.

I felt that you are paying for location which is fairly normal around here but in my opinion, the food was bland bordering on bad and doesn't at all live up to the price point for me, 'good location' or not. Quite overpriced by my standards. Location - theoretically good as it's right downtown, and has the 'canal view' but I found the water here is dirty and still and simply not worth it. Up on the street side it is quite busy with people walking by all the time. I found the food itself felt unfresh and generally very bland. Bread was stale according to my standard.

Overall if you're in the city centre and can manage to walk another 5 minutes, I believe almost any other option in the vicinity would be better. Most I can recommend is to stop here for just a drink...

Rude staff! I would avoid coming here, we didn't even get anything in the end, we made our order and the waiter was so rude we left because he questioned what we were ordering and kept sighing! He said we can't have coffee and wine on the same table huh? The other waitress was shouting at us for no reason when we tried to leave after we ordered but we couldn't be bothered and walked out. Do not go here if you have any allergens or specific things you can't eat, they have no alternative choices, no other milk, it's just COWS MILK! No other cafe just has cows milk, it's 2024! We ended up going to a much better cafe with much nicer staff who don't sigh and question what we order. The gentleman who took our order should learn how to speak to people, he clearly wasn't even German either (I speak both English and German) It doesn't feel very welcoming at all, one of the staff members was...
