Good pastries. Horrible service. Horrible horrible service. Many people stood in line, then some woman came in with lots of bags, set them down inside the store, skipped the line and was served by a clueless store clerk. When it was my time to order after waiting 10 minutes I asked for two pastries and offered to carry them upstairs to a table, so the three clerks could serve a very busy customer line. I was rudely told that is impossible and I have to order from one of the clerks when they go upstairs - even though there was no one serving upstairs because the store was so busy. So forced to choose between waiting upstairs probably for another 20 minutes until someone goes up or getting take out, I choose take out. I was immediately told that if I get the parties to go I cannot go upstairs to eat them or use the tables outside. Yes, that is what getting something to go means, but I just smile and place my order. Then I'm told that credit cards require a 30 dollar minimum purchase. The small sign is only posted at the checkout register. No problem, I just ask for another pastry and some macaroons. I get attitude in return. I've never seen such disrespectful service from a cafe or patisserie, and I buy a lot of pastries. If a store wants to charge people more for wanting to eat on premises, let them charge more. I have no problem paying for the forks, napkins, and dish cleaning that is required. But don't give me attitude for trying to be helpful by offering to carry my own food upstairs when I clearly see that you are busy handling customers diastasis and have trouble keeping track of who is in line and who is skipping the line. I won't describe the rude staff that treated so many customers badly, but I bet if you visit the store, you will immediately know who they are. The owner should give them...
Read moreTerrible service and very rude staff. All the tables were occupied and because of that we bought cakes “to go”. Leaving the cafe, we saw one free table, sat down and ordered coffee. The waitress brought coffee and ONLY AFTER THIS, she said that we couldn’t eat anything in their cafe if we bought it “to go”. On our question - “why? We bought it here in your cafe, we didn’t bring it with us?! ”, she said, well, I would get less tips from you then, you already paid for the cakes ... We asked for the bill without drinking coffee, and the waitress had the audacity to ask why we were leaving so quickly - “Is something wrong? Why didn't you drink coffee? ”Needless to say, we were with a child who did not understand why we packed all sweets and left. I will never go to Maelu again, and categorically would not advise it to my friends and tourists.
Read moreNice and cute cakes, a real eye-catcher. But this place has a very strange and unfriendly rule: if you bought cakes to take away, you are not allowed to sit on the outside terrace and try them. I bought several cakes for our evening tea party. My little daughter asked me to sit for a several minutes ouside and let her to try the "bunny" cake. But when she asked one of the cafe employees to give her a fork, the lady refused. Then my daughter asked again while I was paying for the cakes. I confirmed that she just wanted to try it. The cafe employee gave her a fork, but her colleague called my daughter over and took the fork from her. At the same time the third employee who gave me change told us that since we bought cakes to "take away" we cannot sit outside.
My daughter cried as we walked home.
This is the first time I have encountered such an attitude, especially towards a child who just politely asked for a fork. We would occupy the table for a few minutes at most. Plus there were plenty of free tables since we came on a weekday. All we needed was a little involvement and a desire to help from the cafe staff. Will we want to come again?...
