Having brunch in Monastiraki is an experience you simply shouldn't miss while in Athens. The area offers a beautiful, bustling setting with views of ancient ruins and the nearby train station—it's a vibrant mix of history and local life that perfectly captures the city's charm.

We chose a spot with a prime location and high expectations. The food was decent—nothing particularly fancy, but satisfying for a casual brunch. Unfortunately, what stood out more than the food was the service, and not in a good way.

While nearly everyone we met in Athens was incredibly warm and hospitable, our server here was quite the opposite. She seemed disinterested and unapproachable, which contrasted sharply with the usual Greek friendliness we had come to appreciate. Additionally, her extremely long nails made handling the plates awkward, and something as simple as getting ketchup took an unexpectedly long time. It left us a bit surprised and disappointed.

That said, the café or restaurant still has great potential. Its location is unbeatable and offers one of the best views in Monastiraki. With more attentive service and a touch more polish, it could easily become a top brunch destination...

So we are here now.. Been waiting for 50 mins for our food.. Nothing extra.. Just souvlaki and tzaziki.. Hopefully we get it some time... Otherwise the interior looks neat and clean.. Edit.. After 1 hour we received the tzaziki.. Not it is 1h 10min after we arrived.. Still waiting for two souvlaki.. Edit 2: ok. We got the food.. It was delicious, the ladies/waitresses were nice and friendly.. Therefore I add one star.. But the waiting was horrific..

EDIT FOR THE OWNER'S RESPONSE : NO. I was waiting for the the first dish for 60 mins! Don't lie... I know this precisely, I checked when we arrived and when we got the dish. We did not care if it arrived together with the main meal or separately, but do you belive it is OK to wait for meal for 1 hour? Doesn't matter if appetizer or main dish.. Taking off one star for...

We waited a little over an hour to receive our dishes. I ordered a Greek salad and he served me a dish that was wandering from hand to hand without finding happiness. A simple Coca-Cola could not be served on time. The dishes were not served at the same time. My friends had taken hamburgers and pasta, the meat of the hamburgers were not good and portions of uncooked and unsalted fries left to be desired. I would add to that the manager made us 🤷‍♂️ when we asked him where our dishes were.

I would not recommend this restaurant. The waiting time was unbearable, and the service was extremely slow. It’s best to avoid this place if you value your time despite the pretty view...

Extremely friendly staff. Good ambience in the day as well. Be sure to seat inside if you aren’t welcoming of second-hand smoking. You will hear the occasional trains raging past at the track some 20m away from the alfresco area. Ordered the pasta 33, which is a linguine. It is cheesy but not too cheesy. Generous portion of prosciutto and mushrooms. Excellent meal. Also had the chicken souvlaki, which is a skew of chicken meat with salad and fries. Again, generous portion and extremely tasty. No regrets to have these two meals for two. Be sure to try some of the local beer - Septem.

The service and atmosphere of this place was great, but the food was leaving something to be desired. My girlfriend got the Moussakka, which was not how it is usually prepared from my experience. I ordered the salmon salad, and was not expecting smoked salmon (the menu said "salmon"). It stated, "greens with cucumber, dill, and lemon sauce. There was no cucumber, dill, or lemon. It was just lettuce soaked in olive oil and was tough to eat. This place seems best for coffee and a quick snack.
