Fainos Restaurant — Restaurant in Municipality of Rhodes

The Fainos staff were excellent and couldn't have been more friendly and welcoming. My wife and our 2 children ate at approximately 3pm in the afternoon. My family were delayed (shopping!) so I waited at Fainos and had a refreshing draught beer while I waited for my family to arrive. The day was very hot and I was directed to a table in the shade with a fan at my back. After ordering, we had starter of pitta bread with a selection of dips which was delicious. Main courses included pizza and fries on the side (for the kids), my wife had Greek salad with Halloumi cheese on the side (she loved it), and I had Calamari with fries and salad on the side. My wife and the kids couldn't finish their meals, so they asked if they could take home their uneaten meals, which Fainos staff prepared as takeaway to be enjoyed later. My meal of Calamari was the best I've ever eaten. Normally Calamari is tough but this was tender and covered in gentle batter. Yum. Fainos boss Peter is a convivial host - he took photos for us while we enjoyed our meal. Michelle and Nickos made us feel at home. Fainos was a cullinary experience we won't forget. Nice enough. I appreciate that there's a lot of competition, but me and my partner where just checking TripAdvisor nearby for a few restaurants before deciding, and when we decided to eat here, the guy that was trying to get people in kind of berated us for looking at TripAdvisor. Thought it was a bit weird and made us a bit uncomfortable, but we laughed it off and sat down. As soon as we had menus, a lady just stood close by, watching us, even after saying we would like a few minutes. Again, it made us a little uncomfortable and like we were being rushed. The food came and it was ok. Nothing that stood out from other restaurants that we have been to in the old town. Could have had a bit more chicken in the salad, and they were kind enough to make my partner the breakfast meal she wanted when we didn't realise breakfast had ended ( our fault, we lost track of time). Watch out!!!!! This place is a scam, we took three drinks and a beer and ended up with a bill of 77€. When trying to pay with card the waiter did some sketchy things on the terminal with greece language. After my normal visa was declined 3 times I asked them what they were trying to do, and asked them to explain what is happening. Then the 4th time the payment went through and the menu on the terminal was different. I am 100% sure that they were trying to hustle me for more money, and that hustle would have cost me more then 200€.
